As part of Ubisoft's earnings report today for the year ended March 31, the French publisher officially confirmed Far Cry 4, the next entry in the action series. It's not much of a surprise, as Ubisoft told GameSpot last year at E3 2013 that a follow-up to Far Cry 3 was a sure-thing based on the sales of that game.

"The year's performance will be led by five games--Assassin’s Creed Unity, Far Cry 4, Just Dance, The Crew, and Watch Dogs," Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said in a statement. "Watch Dogs' pre-orders are at record levels and it is perfectly positioned to become the industry’s most successful new IP in history."

Far Cry 4 is coming to Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC on November 18. Today's confirmation of Far Cry 4 comes after a flurry of leaks. Here's how Ubisoft sets up the story for Far Cry 4:

"In Far Cry 4, players find themselves in Kyrat, a breathtaking, perilous and wild region of the Himalayas struggling under the regime of a despotic self-appointed king. Using a vast array of weapons, vehicles, and animals, players will write their own story across an exotic open-world landscape."

"Following the success of Far Cry 3, we wanted to take the franchise to the next level and create a game that will surprise players and exceed fans' expectations," executive producer Dan Hay said in a statement. "Given the unique setting, we feel Far Cry 4 will stand out as a top first-person shooter and we're eager to reveal more about the game in the coming months."

If you preorder Far Cry 4, you'll receive a limited edition version of the game that includes Hurk's Redemption, a three-part single-player mission pack featuring the character Hurk from Far Cry 3. You'll also receive Hurk's main weapon, the harpoon gun called The Impaler, if you preorder.

More information about Far Cry 4 will be shared during Ubisoft's E3 2014 briefing next month, to be held Monday June 9 at 3 p.m. PDT.

<< LINK REMOVED >> - I don't think they will do that until there is a much larger user base for the new consoles. After all, not everyone who owns a PS4 or X1 is going to buy the game, and so far there are only 10 or 11 million sold to consumers. I think Ubisoft ( and other large publishers ) will wait for at least 20 million new console sales before dropping last gen support..

<< LINK REMOVED >> I'm with you on that one. Thats why I was sooo looking forward to The Division this year. But with FC4 coming out I doubt they'd release them so close to each other

Avatar image for origkillmachine

hm. Well, this seems like a missed opportunity to create a visually exceptional next-gen Far Cry. I love FC3, but if it's more of the same I will happily skip FC4. Too many great new games coming out to entertain rehashed games.

Although I loved FC3 and am excited for this, seeing "make a top selling game" as the goal instead of "make the best game" is worrying.

<< LINK REMOVED >> - I think it is worded that way for investors/shareholders, so they don't get twitchy about the huge budget.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Yeah, but that general mentality is the reason why we have so much homogenized, regurgitated crap nowadays. Investors don't understand video game success as anything other than ripping off the most popular thing out there.

Guess that means The Division won't be this year. I loved FC3 but I'm a bit worried at the short amount of time its taken them to create another one. I also hope it's next-gen only and not watered down for the sake of older consoles.

<< LINK REMOVED >> It shows right in the picture that it will be on everything except Wii U. :/

Or as we shall be calling it by then, "Watchdogs on a tropical island"

<< LINK REMOVED >> .......for jokes to be funny they need to be somewhat true.

Well, if it is as easy as FC3 I will unfortunately have to pass. I got so incredibly bored with FC3 because I never felt the drive to push further into the story line. Halfway through the game I already felt like I had experienced it all....

<< LINK REMOVED >> - Sorry to hear that. I had a lot of fun with the game, but then I tended to alternative between story missions and exploring the world for a while, which worked well for me and kept me engaged.

No Division?! DAMN YOU UBI!

<< LINK REMOVED >> Sucks...I know. I'll forgive them if FC4 is next gen only though

<< LINK REMOVED >> Its probably best that they wait. There is going to be a fair amount of games coming out later this year.

Nice! Was looking forward to another one of these.

So we know it is out by March 2015 and The Division IS NOT out by March 2015.

playing thru The very first Far Cry now. actually the one where they updated the graphics. Its a pretty good game. The acting is little cheesy. But i don't mind that. I think its funny. trying to work my way thru this series. to be able to play 4.

<< LINK REMOVED >> They don't necessarily relate to one another but hell who cares great games I played the Xbox version a while ago and didn't think much of it, then Far Cry 2 was coming out and was I like ill give the 360 version of Far Cry 1 a try it was okay fun but not amazing, secondly far cry 2 was a disappointment easily logged 40+ hours but its kinda stale and Far cry 3 WOW just amazing the true Far Cry experience lies in there I can't wait for Far Cry 4 the amount of time they spent with 3 i know this is gonna be great

Avatar image for spartanx169x

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >>I played Far Cry Instincts first instead of Far Cry. Don't know why, it was just on a whim. Now playing Far Cry. , then next up Evolution then 2 then 3.

Avatar image for donjuancorleone

I really enjoyed Far Cry 3, thought it was nice and varied. I just wished theyd have had the option to reset the outposts from the start. By the time they updated it i was playing something else.

So im looking forward to this!

Avatar image for spartanx169x

<< LINK REMOVED >> I had not even heard about the series until I started hearing how good 3 was. So I went and got all the ones leading up to 3. So far so good. i made the mistake of playing one of them out of order. Buts its still good.
