Fallout Shelter Hits PC, Gets Huge Mobile Update Next Week

You can play the hit mobile game on PC very soon, while new update adds more locations and a fresh combat system.

Fallout Shelter is growing in a big way this coming week.

The mobile game's major 1.6 update, as well as the PC version, will arrive in five days, according to a tweet today from the Fallout account. That would put the release at Wednesday (July 13) or Thursday (July 14), depending on if Bethesda is counting today or not.

As announced at E3, the Fallout Shelter 1.6 mobile update is a "really big update." There will be new locations to visit, enemies to defeat, and new characters to add to your Vault. You'll also be able to send dwellers out on quests, and an "all-new" combat system.

Bethesda has yet to share specifics, but with the release closing in, we expect to hear more soon. As for the PC version of Fallout Shelter, it remains to be seen what differences, if any, there are compared to the mobile version.

We'll bring you more information on Fallout Shelter's 1.6 update the PC version as it becomes available.

Fallout Shelter, a free game that also offers microtransactions, is a massive hit with some 50 million downloads to date.

I wonder if Bethesda will release the Fallout 4 DLC "Vault-Tec Workshop" on the same day since it is very similar to this. They have not mentioned a release date other than July, so it makes me curious :-)

i hope this means higher resolution means we won't have to swipe left/right/up/down to see the entire vault. and hopefully, with mouse wheel, zooming will work like a charm. and the menus should be less lame, so hopefully we can more easily view the menus, like all at once instead of having to swipe left forever to see all those weapons and clothing that each dweller returns with after days outside the vault.

but still, i'd hope the game gets an entire overhaul, when i played on tablet the endurance stat was not retroactive, which meant all your starting population were gimp when they reached max level, compared to those who you raised in a specific manner (give level 1 a clothing with high endurance, then use that to train endurance to level 10, then level up... get tons more hp as a result)

also the raids on the vault were so scripted. 1. the fires and molerats were more difficult to fight based on the tier of the room, so you just avoid leveling up the room to avoid difficulty... and 2. you knew how much population would trigger deathclaw attacks, so you could just turtle just under 60 population indefinitely with relative safety, build your vault all the way, and get flush on gear and caps and a whole new generation of grown kids with 10 endurance from level 1, and THEN have a baby boom to 100 population and laugh at the deathclaw attacks, because you have great weapons and super dwellers with tons of health from gimmick endurance training....

i was hoping for more from the gameplay. changing the combat won't be enough if the endurance is still not retroactive, and the raids are still as lame as they were on tablet.

i won't hold my breath, as i know bethesda isn't great at working out the details. they typically leave their games in an undesirable state and rely on modders to fix their games... just look at the ridiculous settings they added to fo4 survival mode (like how thirsty you get). that had to be modded immediately.

"You can play the hit mobile game on PC very soon"

Yet the title of the post says it hits PC meaning its already out. Nice mislead your audience so they click on the post.

@illage2: I don't think that was the editors intention. The end of the headline "next week" applies to both the update and pc release. The use of the comma instead of a full stop after "hits pc" is intended to show that as it's part of the same sentence. The way i read it was.

"Fallout shelter hits pc <PAUSE> gets huge mobile update <PAUSE> next week"

I would have put a comma after "mobile update" but whether that's 100% the correct thing to do would have had my English teachers as school debating all day long :)

So now that this is on PC I wonder if that means I can get it on Windows Phone I mean if it's going to be in the Windows 10 store then I should likely be able to access it on my phone as well now that I'm thinking about it it should also be available on Xbox because the store is the same for all 3.

@darthrevenx: Agree. Found it to be playable, but needlessly cramped on my 5-inch phone. Should be much better suited to a larger tablet or laptop screen.
