Now Playing: Fallout 76 Xbox One, PS4, And PC Beta Start Dates Announced - GS News Update

Don't look now, but the apocalypse is upon us. That's because Fallout 76 is now available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The earliest game in the series' timeline, Fallout 76 puts you in the shoes of a man or woman just before they leave Vault 76. Base-building returns from Fallout 4, and players can hunt down items that will allow them to fire nuclear missiles at areas of the map. The game is said to be four times bigger than its predecessor, and--in a series first--it's online.

Every other person you see in the game is controlled by a real person--NPCs need not apply. For a complete roundup of the facts, check out Everything We Know About Fallout 76. Whether you're a diehard fan of the series or you want to see what all the hype is about, you might be ready to take the plunge. If so, we have all the information you need below.

Those willing to spend more can get a much grander package. In addition to a copy of Fallout 76 itself, the Power Edition gets you a ton of extras, the centerpiece of which is a T-51 Power Armor helmet. This is actually wearable and is equipped with a voice modulator speaker and a working headlamp. This comes with a West Tek canvas carrying bag.

Also included is a map showing Fallout 76's world. This measures 21 inches by 21 inches and glows in the dark. Additionally, there are 24 figurines based on in-game models (covering likes like creatures and vault dwellers), a steelbook, and bonus in-game items (outlined with the Deluxe edition).

Does Bethesda hate Steam now?

Avatar image for Pyrosa

@jsprunk: Bethesda, like other large Pubs, is big enough that they don't need to PAY Valve anymore.

@jsprunk: All I can say is lucky Steam. They won't have to deal with the pile of dung that is Fallout 76.

The practice of bumping months old articles that have lots of comments to make them more likely to show up in search engines is shady.

Hey hats off to Newegg for selling the game at $10 less then everybody else. So is there any word on just how long it is going to take for Bethesda to get the mod servers for this game up and going because I don't want to have to wait a whole year to play this game with mods. Either way this game looks pretty crazy lol like who would have guessed we would get a multiplayer version of Fallout. I don't understand why Bethesda didn't just make a giant Creation Club mod to add multiplayer to Fallout 4 instead of making a whole separate game just in case this fails and falls straight on it's face at least it won't damage the reputation of Fallout.

@Marky360: Server code & infrastructure, with persistent backend datastores, is a whole different entity from game client code. At best, mods MIGHT be able to pull off platform-specific P2P, but they'd need to patch in netcode even for that much

Playing dark souls remastered these days, and I try to log in as a sunbro to help people beat bosses, and it's just rampant invasion after invasion of players. Of course, we may kill dozens of them in this, but I have no joy in killing other players when I'm trying to co-op. It's. Just. Not. Fun to me.

So I really am down on multiplayer at the moment. Like a lot of internet culture. There's so much more negative than positive that I don't see the point.

@dmblum1799:

Another absurd thing these days in dark souls which has been rather trashed. All the PVP invaders will pot at the first hit. They pot like mad. This was not the case in old dark souls on PS3 or PC. So, I have plenty of characters can get plenty of 20 max bonfires and pot like mad - but that's a frickin waste of time. Fight till you die, with honor. You lose you go home. Tip your cap if someone has you nearly dead. But potting in pvp in dark souls is effin lame.

I'm going to have to read reviews on this before I even think about purchasing it.

Not sure about this game....kind of got franchise fatigue with Fallout 4 and not into this whole live service thing these days....curious to see how this plays out though. Todd Howard's team usually are dedicated to their games so we'll see.

Pre-order culture is getting pretty nuts.

Unless you just really want that power armor helmet, I'd suggest waiting and grabbing the digital standard edition after reviews confirm it's worth buying. You know you're just going to have to download it anyway, even with a disc.

@pyro1245:

I heard that Power Armor helmet sold out soon as it was announced lol. What I din't get is all the negative attitudes toward pre-ordering it is literally not that big a deal and you can cancel a pre-order any time so there is no risk what so ever only benefit.

Such a shame the glow-in-the-dark map isn't included in the deluxe edition. Heck, I would have paid an extra $20 ($100 total) to have that map with the deluxe.

Lately Betshesda's quality is dropping down. And now they create multiplayer game instead of rich single player game which indicates they aren't able to create good story mode on par to witcher 3.

Only a big fan, naive or insane person can pre-order sub quality product.

Meh I thought that FO4 was easily better then the Witcher 3. I played the Witcher 3 and it's combat was pretty damn terrible to be honest probably some of the worse hack and slash gameplay I have played in years. Yea the Witcher 3 is definitely one of those game that is just way overhyped and is nowhere near as good as ppl say it is.

Avatar image for JEF8484

@verysalt: yea it is kind of lame they did this first- rather then just focus on Starfield and ES6 from the get go....I have high hopes for those games though. We shall see...

Avatar image for Mogan

@JEF8484: I don’t think this is being made by the same team as Starfield.

Avatar image for JEF8484

@Mogan: Yea I wonder how much the "original" team is working on one of the 3 projects.....their pretty spread apart now with so many areas...

Avatar image for skippert

@verysalt: Assumptions, both your comment and a pre-order is based on exactly that. But I do agree, people should try to prevent themselves from placing pre-orders.

To think... this could have been another Obsidian Fallout game... This is like someone giving you a turd and saying "You know, I almost got you a diamond, but decided to go with this instead!"

@irishinstigator:

Honestly I thought Obsidians Fallout was pretty bad at least storywise anyway it just sucked and all the characters annoying as hell. Gameplay was good though.

Some people like additional merch, some people don't. Why the hell so many of you seem outraged about optional merch is baffling.

"They just doin' it fer money!!!!"

No shit? A business wants money? That revelation just occur to you now? Welcome to reality. Pro tip from someone who popped that f'ing bubble years ago: stop giving a shit about how other people spend THEIR money because it's none of your damn business.

That having been said, I'm not excited about the game or the preorders but if someone else wants a plastic novelty helmet, that's their choice.

Avatar image for skippert
skippert

@jerusaelem: People should not automatically give in to temptation and place pre-orders. There are some excellent examples of how badly this can backfire not only for the company but also for the consumer - SWBF2 being a prime example. Victims all around if you ask me. Some companies really need to step up their game but simply do not because the cash grab has become so easy these days with everyone blindly buying months ahead of release.

Avatar image for verysalt
verysalt

@jerusaelem:

Usually "They just doin' it for money!!!!" means that company is getting close to milking same product or Bait and Switch. That's when you know that company's good name is being flushed to make money instead of pleasing clients/customers. Business is business but reputation is also should be important, not just making money.
