Now Playing: GS News Update: Fallout 4 Game Of The Year Edition Coming Alongside More Pip-Boy Editions

GameSpot may get a commission from retail offers.

It might surprise you to realize that Fallout 4 doesn't have some kind of Game of the Year-style edition available, as both Fallout 3 and New Vegas do. For a game that received a great deal of acclaim and was so wildly popular following its November 2015 release, it's the sort of thing that seems inevitable--and, indeed, we'll soon finally see one.

Bethesda has announced Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition, a bundle of the game with all six of its DLC expansions: Nuka-World, Vault-Tec Workshop, Contraptions Workshop, Far Harbor, Wasteland Workshop, and Automatron. Buyers will also get to take advantage of the various updates that have been released since Fallout 4's launch, such as mod support and Survival mode.

The Game of the Year Edition will be available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One on September 26. Bethesda tells GameSpot it will be priced at $60.

Alongside this version, those who missed out on the hard-to-find Pip-Boy Edition will have another chance to get their hands on it: A "limited number" will be sold in North America at select (but unspecified) retailers. The Pip-Boy Edition famously includes a wearable wrist mount, which you can slot your phone into with the Fallout app to mimic the Pip-Boy your character wears in the Fallout games. This new version of it is priced at $100, includes the Game of the Year Edition, and also launches on September 26.

I'm so glad that I waited for this to come out, but I'm not sure if I want the Pip-Boy or not. Is it really worth shelling out an extra $40?

Avatar image for dmblum1799

It really does look good on the PS4 pro after that patched it. But having played both versions, pc and ps4, with dlc, for me the dlc wasn't worth it. If you haven't played it and have a pro, you can get the main game for 20 bucks or less depending. I'd say this is only for people who have done everything in the main game.

What a piece of junk.

the PiP boy is shit, dont get it!

Avatar image for deactivated-5ae060efb3bf6

Doesn't everyone already have this game that was ever going to buy it by now.

Avatar image for Slinqy

If they really wanted to make this special they should've included a bonus dlc. *cough ZETA! *cough cough

I've been waiting for this. FO4 has been on sale a few times but the Season Pass has been more expensive than the base game!

I'm a Fallout fan since 1&2 but Bethesda games are horrible on launch & usually need a few patches & about a hundred mods to have the best experience so now might finally be the time to pick it up.

Avatar image for muppetbabymastr

@bbq_R0ADK1LL: just get the base game for $15-20. Aside from far harbor which I would rate a 7 the rest is a straight rip off even if you like the settlement system. If you need additional content there are some ok mods out there for free unless you have ps4.

One of the most disappointing games ever.

Avatar image for deactivated-5ae060efb3bf6

@irritatedstick Not, just expect too much. Fans of the series were just fine. - Plus I would think that title goes to No mans Sky.

Avatar image for fedor

@Triton: I expected an rpg. I didn't get one.

Avatar image for irritatedstick

@Triton: No Man's Sky is certainly up there, and may even have it beat.

There are plenty of longtime fans who aren't happy with FO4, myself included. In trying to think of a comparison for the game, I think Oblivion to Skyrim might be best (FO3 was trying to step out of Interplay's shadow, and NV was made by Obsidian).

My point is, I don't think anyone can say FO4 represented nearly the same leap in quality over FO3 that Skyrim did over Oblivion.

Avatar image for muppetbabymastr

@irritatedstick: agreed just that fact that there where an overwhelming amount dragons in skyrim and nothing comparable in size in fallout was disappointing. Choices and mechanics are another matter since it was an action game and not an rpg as many of us expected.

Avatar image for irritatedstick

@muppetbabymastr: This is another good point and kind of the other side of the coin on why it is seen as disappointing. Turning a long-running RPG series into an action game isn't going to please the fans, obviously.

@irritatedstick: amen.

Avatar image for fedor

Biggest dissapointment of the gen.

Avatar image for capocrimeboss

@fedor: Bullshit.

Avatar image for fedor

@capocrimeboss: game is a giant meh. 6/10.

Avatar image for Runeweaver

Guess if people will keep buying the same game over and over, Bethesda never needs to make a new one, just release Skyrim and Fallout 4 every year.

Avatar image for deactivated-5ae060efb3bf6

@Runeweaver: You need to post that over at the Madden threads. - and look how many copies they sell year after year after year. - this is not that bad.

Avatar image for Judeuduarte

@Runeweaver: Well but they don't release every year. Not even close. If there is something that you can't accuse Bethesda is exactly that.

Avatar image for Runeweaver

@Judeuduarte: by the end of this year Skyrim will have been released and rereleased 6-7 times, with game of year editions, porting to current gen and now the switch and the VR edition, Fallout 4 is likely to get the same treatment, and with no other Fallout or Elderscrolls titles on the horizon, they will liking be ported to the next gen as well.

Avatar image for Judeuduarte

@Runeweaver: My mistake. I thought you were saying that Bethesda keeps realeasing basically the same game just with make up over it (like a lot of people said about Skyrim - Oblivion)

Avatar image for Scorch_22

I was just thinking about when they would release a GOTY Edition last night! Baader-Meinhof phenomenon playing out right there...

I'm gonna wait though. No way I'm paying 60 bucks for it, 40 bucks and I'll think about it.

Avatar image for doctor_mg

@Scorch_22: I liked your comment because I'm pretty sure it was purposeful irony :P

Avatar image for snugglebear

Todd, can we make it so that you can play Skyrim INSIDE of Fallout?

Avatar image for Attitude2000

More pip-boys...can't get mad at that

Avatar image for duomaxwell003

Better saving with the digital deluxe version...

Not worth paying $60 for a disc that takes the same amount of hard drive space...

Avatar image for siarhei

Btw, the game with all DLC was ~$40 last black friday. Digital, too...

Avatar image for nintendoboy16

I have the regular version on ONE and I'll probably pick this up later when the price drops.

Avatar image for lionheartssj1

$60 GOTY edition? Meh.

Avatar image for adamfwalker

I loved Fallout 4 and i bought the season pass before the price was raised. But I am sorry a game of the year edition should not be $60 40 at most. i have no reason to buy this but at 40 i might have thought about it just for a collectors standpoint. as it is now i will wait for it to price drop to 30 or 20 from BB and use my GCU.

Avatar image for PSYCHOV3N0M

@adamfwalker: GCU for the win!!!

Avatar image for tracerxxi

And there goes any hope of bethesda putting something other than Skyrim on the Switch...

Avatar image for yukushi

After all the hype fallout 4 was not that great, skyrim blew me away fallout did not, after finishing the game I had no interest in getting the dlc since I wasnt impressed, that is why its best to finish a game before thinking about dlc.

Avatar image for Fish61324

@yukushi: It's not always best to finish a game before thinking about DLC. If you're not really enjoying a game, but the DLC for that game offers that "thing" that would allow you to enjoy the game, than it's a good thing to get DLC before finishing the game. Or if you're not really enjoying the story of a game but love all the other aspects of the game.... then it might be a good thing to get DLC for a new story for the same game you're enjoying playing........ see? There are other examples of how looking at DLC before finishing a game can be a good thing. You don't have to be so narrow minded :)

Avatar image for bussaondabeatho

@Fish61324: Never have I ever looked a DLC as making a game "better". Maybe more of an experience but never better. Please give me a game that had DLC that made the game better. I'm not being an ass, I am just curious.

Avatar image for muppetbabymastr

@bussaondabeatho: The raider dlc made the game better but since it was tacked on it still felt dissapointing. Should have been raider factions and bad guy choices from the jump, hopefully they will add them to the next one.

Avatar image for inebriantia

@bussaondabeatho: Fallout New Vegas, I found the base game kinda meh, but the dlc... man those were some of my favorite dlc ever.

Fallout 4, I hated settlement building, but then all the settlement dlc came out, and now I love it.

That's two examples just from Fallout games.

Avatar image for Pyrosa

The real-world Pip-Boy + app is actually excellent, and actually works. Granted, wearing it for 200hrs is only for the most die-hard role-players, but it was fun for a weekend.

Avatar image for muppetbabymastr

@Pyrosa: tried the app when the game came out I thought my phone was going to explode it overheated so much. Guess you need a fusion core phone for it to work peoperly.

Avatar image for Barighm

Unlike previous games, none of the DLC was particularly must-have. Only one was a proper expansion and it's very hit or miss.

Avatar image for Slinqy

@Barighm: Nuka-World was my favorite.

Avatar image for Fish61324

@Barighm: And then goes on to not name the "only one" expansion that was proper..... smh.

Avatar image for xnshd

will this have a separate list of achievements just like the witcher 3 game of the year edition did?

Avatar image for Greyden

@xnshd: What wait? That is awesome. I need to play Witcher 3 again!

Avatar image for xnshd

@Greyden: ye if you played the first release of the witcher in may 2015 that had a set of achievements/trophies obviously then when they release the game of the year edition last august i think it came with a new set. same achievements but you could earn them again if you get me.
