Fallout 4 DLC Announced, Coming in 2016

"We don't know what the actual DLC will be yet, but it will start coming early next year."

Bethesda has announced the first details about Fallout 4 DLC. The publisher will offer a $30 Season Pass that comes with "all of the Fallout 4 DLC we ever do." Bethesda doesn't yet know what form this content may take, but one thing is for sure, you won't see it until 2016.

"Since we're still hard at work on the game, we don't know what the actual DLC will be yet, but it will start coming early next year. Based on what we did for Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Skyrim, we know that it will be worth at least $40, and if we do more, you'll get it all with the Season Pass."

No Caption Provided

By comparison, Bethesda released five paid DLC expansions for Fallout 3. These were Operation Anchorage, The Pitt, Broken Steel, Point Lookout, and Mothership Zeta. They all came with new quests, items, achievements, and more. You can probably expect the same from Fallout 4's DLC.

In addition to DLC, Bethesda says it is planning "regular free updates" to Fallout 4. As was the case for Skyrim, these will introduce fixes and new features alike. Some of Skyrim's post-launch new features, for example, were mounted combat, a kill cam, and a legendary mode, among other things.

"We'll work with all of you to figure out what new things you'd love to see added to Fallout 4, whether they are small tweaks or new features," Bethesda said.

The world of Fallout 4 will also continue to expand through mods. The game's Creation Kit--the same tool Bethesda's own designers use at the studio--will arrive on PC in "early" 2016, allowing people to make whatever they want. Some of these mods will then come to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 after that.

"The most important thing in our games is the freedom you have to create your own experience, and modding is a big part of that," Bethesda said. "Like all our previous games, we've made sure to keep Fallout 4 open and moddable at every step in development."

The Fallout 4 release date is set for November 10 across PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

In other recent Fallout 4 news, Bethesda says it will not talk much more about the game's story in the lead-up to launch. In addition, Bethesda believes the game could end up outselling Skyrim.

With my busy schedule on the office, I probably need two whole years to complete my backlog games.

I enjoy play previous FO games but I think I can wait for their ultimate/GOTY/whatchamacallit edition.

Besides, kinda dislike if a game already announcing the DLCs way before the main game even release.

So, just to be sure I've understood, this article is informing me that Bethesda plan on releasing DLC for Fallout 4, much like just about every other publisher has done for the last ten years.

How informative. I presume water is still wet, by the way?

This publisher/developer never stop to milking money out of their fans. First is the pipboy edition, then this season pass, and later on subscription (payment routine) to bethesda.net in order to access all the mods for 'FREE'. That's nonsense to me.

@cynical_howard: The Pipboy Edition is EXACTLY what fans WANTED TO BUY, which is why it's completely sold out, the Season Pass will actually SAVE people money (if you buy it, you where going to buy all the DLC anyway), and you have no cause to believe that they'll charge subscription for... the site that's already up and doesn't have one of those? I don't think they'll make you pay to click the modding tab they'll add there.

I don't have any problems with DLC , but you don't even know what it will be yet? That seems pretty stupid for me, finish the darn game first, then think about DLC. Don't just say "Ehh, we don't know what DLC we'll have but .... ehhh... it's gonna be like early 2016 cause we want more money... bye" . That's the vibe I'm getting from this.

Seriously!?
That quickly!
I'm already parting with £100 for the sake of a Pipboy, I'm not even sure the DLC will be worth it?

Especially after Skyrim's DLC..

Almost absolutely sure that 30 bucks will be worth it.

I bought Oblivion, Skyrim, and FO3 all on day one and bought all the DLC individually, this will save me much!

This is one of the few games that I actually don't have a problem with them making DLCs.

People ranting about "oh, now I'm going to just wait for the GOTY edition"... are you slightly brain dead?

Did you not expect DLC/Expansions?

Lol... $30 sounds great - same type of DLC scheme as TW3, and nobody's freaking about that?

@IndySandbagTrik: Plus Bethesda has a fantastic track record for making awesome, huge expansion-level dlc. Yes, they did horse armor for Oblivion, but they also did Shivering Isles. Dragonborn & Dawnguard for Skyrim. Broken Steel, The Pitt, and Mothership Zeta for F3. All of those were worth the money and added many hours to the game. Shivering Isles could almost have been a standalone title, it would have been short in comparison, but it had as much, if not more, content and replay value as a lot of other open world games.

@kaiserkold: Don't forget Bloodmoon for Morrowind, which introduced us all to the wonderfully mysterious winter wonderland that is the isle of Solstheim.

Also Hearthfire. I love Hearthfire.

@The-Neon-Seal: not to burst your bubble, but Bloodmoon and Shivering Isles were expansion packs, not DLC. Semantics, gotta love em.

Other companies i'd be annoyed at, but people seem to have replaced the term 'expansion' with DLC so that's whatever, looking at Bethesda's history with DLC they generally do expansion type DLC with a small amount of 'horse armor' type DLC, usually their DLC is pretty content loaded and priced reasonably. But, i guess we'll have to see, i'm hoping they do more expansion stuff, those are the good days of gaming, i loved Dragonborn expansion for Skyrim, i want more like that, new location, enemies, guns etc. etc.

Big mistake Bethesda ! Now you have potentially lost several day one buyers with this ridiculous announcement. Now we will hear people say: "I will get it as a GOTY Edition" etc. Even I am inclined to wait till 2016 now. You guys were hitting it out of the park, but this one is clearly an in-field pop-up.

@starjay009: Its still worth it, their base games are already quite huge that can last a lot of time (unless you rush and play non-stop night n day) and the expansions NOT dlcs are pretty much a new game like others said, indeed some will be waiting for a complete edition and others will buy day one, nothing to blame on either way since the base game is worth every single cent, either you like this type of games or not, you can't deny the fact they know how to make games with content and not just milking money for poor content with jawdroppinggraphic crap

@starjay009: Who didn't already know they were going to have DLC? Bethesda always release their game and follow it up with multiple pieces of story driven DLC. They have done it ever since Oblivion 10 years ago.

@starjay009: You underestimate the hype fallout gets, there is no possible way announcing DLC will have any significant impact on the sale of F4.. how can you even think that?.

fallout 4 will sell like water in the desert of that I am 100% sure.

Then I'll wait for the complete edition. DLC is inevitable with RPG's these days but I wish they would stop announcing it before the base game is even released. It just puts me off buying it early.

@Kashmiro: Yeah, it was predictable but when they announce it before they've even released the game, it just puts me off buying it because I know 100% that I won't be getting the full experience.

If I did to buy the game at launch I would never get to play the dlc's because by the time they release I'd have finished the game, lost interest and probably sold it. So I will wait for a complete edition, same as I am doing with Witcher 3 and Batman AK.

@mickyfinn84: I understand people wanting to wait for complete editions, however my only point was how does this change anything from where we were before they announced the season pass? At that point in time we knew it was going to have DLC, you were ok with buying it then because at that point Bethesda hadn't acknowledged it, even though everyone already knew?

Even though I'll eventually get all DLCs like I did for previous Bethesda games, I'm not willing to pay full price in advance for something I don't even know if I'll want to play right away. I always paid way less when I waited for DLCs that I didn't immediately want.

@Ultramarinus: You aren't paying full price, it's usually $10 off or so. If you want to pay full price, you can wait for the reviews and all to come out.

@Bond_Villain: Agree gaming companies and gamers should return to the roots of terms, maybe some mindless gamers today will get back some brain cells and stop feeding crappy gaming companies...

DLC: armor, weapon, skin, kinky stuff, 5-10 minutes mission

Expansion: entire new areas, worlds, 50-60 minutes of new good missions (that aren't 50-60 min just the first time you do them, because you don't know what you're supposed to do...)

Season passes need to die. It's ludicrous to pay for season passes upfront, not knowing what will be in it.

@Mausthemighty: As I've said before, I intend to buy everything they bring out for this game, as I have with all of their games--because they're solid--so this is a nice little discount on top of it all.

@Mausthemighty: That's why they generally give you a discount on the season pass. Risk/reward, you buy something without knowing about it at a reduced cost, or you wait for the reviews and pay full price.

The "new features" thing concerns me a little.

I don't want people saying "I want this, I want that" and then Bethesda caving into every request.

Hopefully they'll only add new features if it's really obviously an enhancement.

It's almost 10 years since Bethesda doing the DLC practice, yet people still complaining like it happens just now. At least Bethesda creates somewhat decent DLC even though there are few questionable DLC in the past indeed.

At least then, you get everything at once so you won't be getting bored of it.
