Rounding out November, Bethesda Softworks parted the curtain on its upcoming plans for its best-selling postapocalyptic role-playing game Fallout 3. Beginning in the New Year, Bethesda said it would roll out a trio of downloadable add-ons for the Xbox 360 and PC editions of the game, adding new quests and storylines to Megaton City. Predating those premium content updates, however, the game maker also announced the free-to-download Fallout 3 level editor for the PC.

Today, Bethesda said that the Fallout 3 level editor--also know as the Garden of Eden Creation Kit (GECK)--is now available through the game maker's Web site. The level editor gives players access to the full slate of Fallout 3 data files, allowing for the creation of custom buildings, locations, dialogue, weapons, and creatures. Levels can then be shared online for others to play through.
To get players started, Bethesda has launched a GECK wiki page, which is replete with user-generated tutorials and other how-tos for building custom levels. For more on Fallout 3, check out GameSpot's full review.
