Fallout 3 Finished in Less Than 24 Minutes for New World Record

That hardly seems like enough time to admire Liam Neeson's voice acting.

As an open-world Bethesda game, Fallout 3 is one of those games that provides you with a huge number of options in terms of how to play it. As it turns out, one of those options is to blow through the whole thing in about the same amount of time as it takes to watch an episode of South Park or cook a piece of chicken.

As the above video (via Kotaku) demonstrates, speedrunner BubblesDelFuego managed to complete a run of Fallout 3 in just 23 minutes and 55 seconds. As an "any percentage" run, the only real objective is to make it to the game's ending in as little time as possible. 23:55 is reportedly a world record for Fallout 3.

If you watch the full video (it won't take long!), you'll notice some unusual techniques for getting through the game so quickly. As detailed in this FAQ on Fallout 3 speedruns, these include pushing NPC characters along so that they reach their destinations faster and skipping dialogue by using quick saves and quick loads.

In other words, the run you see above will likely look a great deal different from how the game ordinarily plays. Perhaps most notably, at least in my mind, is how effective running in a mostly straight line can be--it sure does make those well-equipped Enclave soldiers look like a bunch of doofuses.

You can keep track of the top times for Fallout 3 speedruns in this document. You likely won't see BubblesDelFuego setting many new times, as the description of this world record video reads, "Pretty solid, I won't try to improve unless something big is found, or if the record is taken by some good competition."

For more mind-blowing speedruns, check out Dark Souls II being completed in 20 minutes or the original Super Mario Bros. being tackled in less than five. Let us now if you've ever attempted one before in your gaming career in the comments below.

This person just proved how bad Bethesda programmed the game if he was able to find that many glitches to be able to exploit the game that badly. Also glitches are not part of normal game play and have always been called cheats. If anyone don't believe me go to the many game cheat sites and see that lots of their cheats are glitches. I myself have used glitches in games at times but never online or for any competition because I believe I can beat anyone in a fair game. lol

I must've put in over 100 hours on fallout 3 PC and never really encountered any of those glitches. But the fact they are there and can be exploited to produce this masterpiece is wonderful!

everytime i see someone saying why "rush this game" i want to break my fingers... the guys who do speedruns have played that specific game casually for hours and hours and hours and probably love the game more than most people that play them, they dont just go turn on a cheat code the first time and complete it at a ridiculous time, those are glitches "part of the game" not game shark codes

I'm not sure if this should count considering he's using glitches. Someone could just use a hack or a trainer to finish the game even faster. Then would that be considered the new world record?

<< LINK REMOVED >> No. You can't use third party programs or edits. The glitches used are part of the core game.

<< LINK REMOVED >> That is my feeling as well, I realize people out there use them all the time but that isn't really completing the game that is cheating through the game.

Supporting stuff like this, multiboxing and other nonsense is what ruins gaming, especially on PC. It may not seem like this has anything to do with MB or other exploiting but it does in a way because people support it like on Twitch, sending people money because they are exploiting games is destupido.

I may have went into a circle of nonsense but there is sense here if you think about it...

Going to call bullshit. Especially considering he skipped half the storyline - not to mention never went to tranquility lane.

Not too hard to finish the game under an hour, you just follow/find your character's dad. You wouldn't know exactly where he is if you hadn't played through the game properly first though. Personally I like to do everything possible before finishing a game.

I don't think it's valid to make a view of the game based on speed-runs' length. ~24 minutes do not encapsulate the game - this should be obvious at once since those setting the records spend hours and hours to find bugs to exploit and refine their runs; neither should anybody think speed runs to be a retarded form of gameplay; on the contrary, the capacity to play a game in such a way speaks volumes of how interactive video games are, unlike any other medium, in fact.

Like I said on PC Gamer, this is like getting to have sex with Kate Upton and then finishing in 5 secs. Really stupid to speed run Fallout 3.

Never come across speedruns before, so am I missing something? Weren't there like 14 missions in Fallout 3? He doesn't complete them. Honestly not on a wind up, just don't understand...

That is just...wrong! I have spent 300+ hours on a single game of Fallout 3. All the cool stuff you missed, all the mods that you can add to make the game even better. This has got to go into the dictionary as some form of blasphemy.

The funniest part is the DarkSouls II run they linked isn't current. The any% run is even more broken now. Also, Outlast has a cool any% that turns the game to ~10min long.

why ? the best thing about rpg games is their longevity, being able to experience the world, you can not do this in 24 minutes.

Meh, IMO If you have to use glitches to get it done, it shouldn't count.

<< LINK REMOVED >> There are categories for some games that do glitchless. However, a lot of people feel that glitches make the games and runs more interesting and entertaining, so they're the more common categories. Also common is when a glitch ruins a game too badly, a category might arise that bans it to make the run more interesting (for example, the Link to the Past and Earthbound fastest runs are only a few minutes each, so people usually play the longer categories that ban the glitches used to attain such fast times).

Also, in almost every case, glitches cause the run to actually be harder -- for example, the Mario 1 run uses a walljump glitch to save time. It's a bug where if you jump at an exact pixel while on a wall, you can get an effective double jump. It's only used once in the run but it's very important, and very hard to pull off considering it's "pixel perfect" and the game updates at 60 times a second (i.e., you have about a 17 *millisecond* window to pull it off).
