Ex-Rare Devs Announce New 3D Platformer

Back to the collect-a-thon.

Though Rare's current concern is Sea of Thieves, the British developer is primarily known for platformers like Donkey Kong Country and Banjo-Kazooie. So it's fitting that Ex-Rare developers would return to their roots to form a new development studio and create yet another platformer.

Chameleon Games is the studio and Tamarin is the platformer. According to the studio's official website, Tamarin is an "incredible interconnected 3D world, brimming with primate platforming and bug-splattering shooter action." The official announcement trailer shows a cute monkey taking revenge on a militarized bug colony that has destroyed its home. The trailer oscillates between intense shooting galleries and serene platforming sections, with plenty of collecting in between. You can watch the trailer below.

According to Eurogamer, Richard Vaucher (Donkey Kong 64's artist) is Tamarin's art producer. David Wise, who composed the soundtrack for Donkey Kong Country, is scoring the game. Graeme Norgate, the composer of soundtracks for games like Donkey Kong Land and Jet Force Gemini, is handling the sound effects. Tamarin's standard edition will retail for $29.99 / £22.99 / €27.99, while the deluxe edition--which includes the soundtrack--will cost $39.99 / £29.99 / €35.99.

Tamarin's due out sometime this summer for PC and PS4.
