[UPDATE] Following the publication of this story, a 2K representative clarified to GameSpot that, "access to Wraith and the new Hunters is exclusive to those who pre-purchase digitally on Xbox One."

The original story is below.

2K Games and Turtle Rock Studios on Friday announced new details about the upcoming Xbox One open beta for highly anticipated monster-hunting game Evolve, which will take place January 15-19.

The first piece of news is that Evolve's most recently announced Monster, the terrifying Wraith, will be playable in the beta. On top of that, Turtle Rock revealed that the third tier of Hunters--Parnell, Caira, Abe, and Cabot--will also be playable.

No Caption Provided

Anyone who pre-purchases Evolve on Xbox One or does so during the open beta will unlock instant access to Wraith and the new Hunters. Pre-purchases are not yet available, but Turtle Rock says information about when you can start pre-buying the game will be shared soon.

It is unclear if the Wraith and new Hunters will be available in the Xbox One beta for players who do not pre-purchase Evolve. Last month, Turtle Rock said players will be able to unlock new monsters and hunters throughout the beta, suggesting that you may be able to acquire the new characters through gameplay alone. We have followed up with Turtle Rock/2K for clarification.

There are even more incentives to pre-purchasing Evolve on Xbox One. Turtle Rock adds that doing so will give you free access to the Monster Expansion Pack, which includes the game's unannounced fourth monster and will normally sell for $15. This expansion also includes the Savage Goliath skin.

The Xbox One is the only platform for Evolve's upcoming open beta, though a select few PlayStation 4 and PC players will also get to the play the unreleased game this month, provided they meet certain qualifications.

The release date for Evolve is February 10, 2015. The game was originally expected to launch in fall 2014, but was delayed to 2015 in August so that Turtle Rock could "fully realize their creative vision."

GameSpot may get a commission from retail offers.

Wasn't there an article yesterday about how the game has gone gold? How can there be a beta after the game is finished? More marketing BS.

<< LINK REMOVED >> likewise. It also made me shake my head how they decided to extend the alpha as a sorry to PSN players, only for the game to still suffer from the same issues. On top of that they also extended access for those on other platforms that never had an issue to begin with. Allowing them to profit from the pain of others. Wont be supporting this game because of that.

Lol, they put their alpha out while people's ps4s were bricking.. And you blame turtle rock and not Sony? You are a cancer to gaming.

<< LINK REMOVED >> PS4's weren't "bricking." They actually have less than a 3% breakdown percentage last I checked. But yes I blame Turtle Rock because it was their game, simple as that. If you are trying to promote a game its best to make sure your game can actually run and interface on the servers belonging to who you are looking to partner with. There was a grave error in their IT department somewhere, and their lackadaisical reaction has made me and many others I'm sure not bother with this game. If you believe fighting for consumer rights is bad for gaming, then I would wager you are simple just like those in gamergate, and just like the fanboys who needlessly and idiotically throw themselves at the whims of a company or faction. If people like me are cancer, then people like you must be an STD. Annoying. Very Plain. Disgusting, and prone to have breakouts. Just like human stupidity...

<< LINK REMOVED >> I find it quite amusing that a very obvious child like individual dares to accuse another of immaturity. Your hypocrisy goes beyond many levels. Your life must be very interesting :)

I have no idea how my post was hypocritical? Or child like? I was pointing out that your choice to withdraw your support, because the developers rewarded everyone for a mistake and not just your platform of choice, was ridiculous and childish. Sorry if my decision to condense those feelings into a shorter post made me seem immature. We all make judgements on what we read without knowing the person behind the post. Enjoy your life, interesting or not? I know I will

All I hear about is content, content this, content that.

Think about this:
A fighting game comes out with 15 or so characters. Another comes out with 60 characters.
In the one with 15 characters, every character is just as powerful as the other 14. People enjoy playing as them all.
In the game with 60 characters, maybe 10 will be awesome to use, and 50 will be completely useless cause no one is playing them.
Same in shooters: There can be 100 different guns, but only 20 will see regular, consistent play, because nobody uses the others.
Same in MOBAs: Many MOBAs have 50+ characters, but only 20 see regular, consistent play in ranked.

In the end, how much content are you actually using, if you have this massive pile of content? Most people use maybe 40% of it, at most.

I'd rather have a game that has not so much content, but gives you a reason to use it all.

After playing the first beta... not a huge fan of this game anymore. This game is best when everyone on your team has a mic or are your friends. If you're just playing this game by yourself, it's not as fun :/

The game looks amazing but I'm not even excited for it anymore. Think I will buy it when it's cheap or get a GOTY edition if it gets released so can have all dlc included.

I can't believe this has not been said about about this game. What this company has done was come up with a "Boss Battle" and made that the entire game. Lots if not most action games will have at least a few Big Boss battles along the way. This game has eliminated everything from your average game except the boss battle. You will be paying $60 for a boss battle!

<< LINK REMOVED >> You forgot to add that an actual player controls the boss. This game has a lot of MOBA elements. People just don't want to admit it. And it has more than one monster, and 4 game modes, so it's not just "a boss battle".

Basically, your entire comment shows that you have almost no idea what you're talking about.

PS4 stress test is tomorrow. Going to give it a shot.

The game looks fun with friends. But I'm unsure about replayablility. It might get boring quick.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Is it now? To my knowledge, the only PS4 technical test upcoming will be on January 17th. XB1 gets a Beta from Jan 15-19. PC gets a tech test from Jan 16-19 and PS4 gets a tech test from Jan 17-19.

Still pretty amped for this game, not expecting anything great, just a hopefully fun 4 player co-op. Day 1 DLC is always disappointing to see though.

<< LINK REMOVED >> What Day 1 DLC is there? To my knowledge, the only thing coming out on Day 1 might be a patch for any adjustments they want after the Beta (Jan15-19) since the game has gone gold already. The Savage Goliath Skin and 4th Monster are preorder bonuses, the latter of which is available for purchase after the gold release, Feb 10th, at an unspecified time. What DLC can you buy for the game on Day 1?

So what do you guys think about the amount of content at launch ? Once I heard the 4th monster (and beyond) will be DLC I've been skeptical-like.

Not that EVOLVE is a bad game...it looks way fun with a group of good friends. But it seems that 3 monsters for 60 usd and having to pay for more is a bit steep.

<< LINK REMOVED >> The 4th monster is free if you preorder. You can goto GreenManGaming.com (<< LINK REMOVED >>) and enter code: EVOLVE-THANKS-25OFFX to get 25% off it ($44.99USD). Cause I'm with you guys, I don't feel it justifies 60, but 45 is more than doable.

12 maps, 3 monsters (4 for those who preorder when it gets released), Evac, hunt, nest, defend and rescue modes.

<< LINK REMOVED >> For $60 I would expect a minimum of at least 10 beasts. Given it only has 3 at launch. For this makes it a $25 game not $60.
