Evil Dead lives

Latest gaming spin-off, Regeneration, ships today for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox, PC version arrives next week.

Much like the nightmarish "deadites" that the Evil Dead movies featured, the franchise itself is proving exceptionally death-resistant. The latest extension of the franchise, Evil Dead: Regeneration, is on its way to shelves today for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox, with a PC version to follow next week, courtesy of THQ.

The game picks up where Evil Dead 2 left off, with Ash the lone survivor of a group of friends who unwittingly stumbled across the Necronomicon, the book of the dead. Ash is accused of killing his companions and sent to an institute for the criminally insane, where a twisted doctor is performing his own experiments to control the Necronomicon with technology.

Bruce Campbell once again reprises his role as Ash, with longtime cohort Ted Raimi (brother of Evil Dead director Sam Raimi and bit player in all the movies) providing a voice for Ash's new deadite dwarf sidekick. Evil Dead: Regeneration was developed by Cranky Pants Games, which previously worked on Red Faction II for the GameCube. The game is rated M for Mature and retails for $19.99.
