Everything Is GTA 6 Now, As The Games Industry Hops On The Rockstar Hype Train

All of a sudden, a lot of game companies have fallen in love with using a familiar color gradient for big announcements.

When the first reveal trailer for GTA V came out in 2011, it was the hottest topic for days. Headlines were written, every pixel of the game was examined, and the hype train began gathering momentum before the game's eventual release in 2013. More than a decade later, history is repeating itself as the first official look at Grand Theft Auto 6 is undoubtedly going to be the biggest news on the day of December 5. [Update: The GTA 6 trailer is now available ahead of schedule.]

With just a simple image, Rockstar Games has millions of eyes focused on its next GTA game before a single frame of gameplay has even been seen. That's an impressive feat, and one that has inspired several other publishers and studios to take a page out of the GTA 6 developer's marketing book. If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then the team at Rockstar Games must be feeling very appreciated right now.

Over on social media, you might have noticed a few games--and movies!--dropping announcements that all sport a very similar color scheme. No one owns a gentle mix of lavender and pale orange, but when you see so many companies making use of a familiar gradient to draw eyes to their games, it's a testament to the drawing power of the Grand Theft Auto brand.

At this point, we still know very little about the game, although it's rumored that GTA 6 features a pair of sibling protagonists embarking on several heists. Several of these rumors originated from a massive leak in September 2022 that revealed tons of early GTA 6 footage and images. there have been a few more leaks since then, but Rockstar has pounced on these with lightning-speed takedown notices as it attempts to remain secretive about its heavily hyped game.

It'll have some big boots to fill in the wake of the GTA V era--the second best-selling game of all time with over 190 million sales to date--and if you're interested in seeing the first GTA 6 trailer, you can tune in at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET in on December 5 to watch it.
