[Updated February 24 with Snipperclips]

A console's launch lineup can be important in helping it get off to a good start. After the struggles of the Wii U, Nintendo is surely hoping the Switch gets off to a strong start in March.

While the Switch's full launch lineup has yet to be confirmed, we now know at least a few of the titles that will debut alongside the system on March 3. As confirmed during the Switch news event on January 12, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Nintendo's new party game 1-2-Switch will be launch titles, as will Ubisoft's Just Dance 2017. Super Bomberman R, The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+, and Skylanders: Imaginators are also launch titles, according to Nintendo on Twitter. These appear to be the only confirmed launch titles at this stage. We will round up all the Switch launch titles and those coming later in this post, adding more to the list below as they become confirmed.

While the thought of playing a portable Skyrim and Dragon Ball Xenoverse does slightly appeal to me, and that Zelda game does look kinda decent, none of that is worth around $300...

@UrbanMessiah: IT DEPENDS WHO YOU ARE. I THINK?

@UrbanMessiah: $452 where I live. Pro controller $101.70, games $90.40 and if you want a single joycon controller left or right they are $73.45 per side unless you get both then they are only $113. Ya see, NINTENDO may have sold under 15 million WII Us but with such a high price tag for anything NINTENDO related and the fact that games very rarely go on sale for half the price like they do for XBOX and PlayStation. NINTENDO makes their money by keeping prices high because they know that gamers will pay those prices.

This list is very different from what I saw in stores. Maybe the launch lineup is a mystery. Sounds like they're pulling another Nintendo.

Zelda is nowhere close to what it looked like when they first showed it off. That's the only game worth buying. If you take the nostalgia out, it's a pretty weak game with no voiced dialogue, character movement is generations behind and it doesn't even seem to preform well.

Nintendo also appears to have no intention of ever hosting any AAA 3rd party game from this generation. The only thing that comes close is Skyrim, and that was from the previous generation. Even the Wii U had games like ME3, and COD to start with.

The only way I see this not being a disaster is if they bring 3DS backwards compatibility and stick to their own development houses.

@lamanuwa: Zelda does have some voiced dialogue though.

@coop36: Based on how much it has it's laughable. The original Zelda tech demo that was shown before the WII U came out was simply amazing and was the only reason why I wanted a WII U.

Avatar image for coop36

@MAXTHUNDER99: Thats highly subjective. I really couldnt care less about voiced dialogue either way. Also, how was the tech demo misleading or different from the final game? Besides using a cinematic camera in the chase, everything looks the same to me.

@coop36: You cannot see the difference? I've provided the video. Watch it again and get back to me on how it looks the same.

I admit theres only 3 games that interest me through the holiday season, but for the Switch in general I am excited. And I do think it will be more successful than the WiiU in the long run.

I always thought the 3DS had a much stronger game catalogue for whatever reasons, so if those devs are going to start coming over to the Switch then the future looks bright indeed. I remember people thought the 3DS was kindof bombing for about half a year or so when it first released as well. So Id keep that in mind in the coming months.

Avatar image for MAXTHUNDER99
MAXTHUNDER99

@coop36: It will definitely be more successful because of one major factor. NINTENDO has lifted their ban on YouTubers posting videos of their products without purchasing a license or being a gaming website. So, They are smartening up and because of this they are getting a crap ton of free advertising.

@eliminatorpaige:

I really hope they bring over most of the big WiiU releases somehow. Maybe thats part of why theres no backwards compatibility? Well, not to mention the cd's wouldnt fit inside the Switch itself...

IOW just Zelda and Skyrim if somehow you have not played that yet lol looks like the Switch is going to be bigger joke than Wii U was.

@BoxOfPocky: Seriously...a Monster Hunter release on Switch would be the only reason I would buy it. That game alone was worth the purchase of the Wii U when it dropped! I just wish they would release a Monster Hunter game on the PS4 even!

Avatar image for MAXTHUNDER99

@otterbee: They do have a Monster Hunter game on the PS4. It launched on November 22, 2016

Avatar image for BoxOfPocky

@otterbee: Well Wii got MH Tri, Wii U got MH Tri Ultimate, so... one can hope the trend continues that the system will get at least one iteration of the game.

Avatar image for coop36

@7tizz: I think the biggest selling point is the fact that it will be portable Skyrim. And yes, laptops could do the same. But the Switch in portable mode can fit inside some jean pockets (not skinny jeans :P).

Avatar image for MAXTHUNDER99
MAXTHUNDER99

@coop36: So can the PS VITA. Before you say but, but, but the PS VITA doesn't have Skyrim. PS4 remote play. Of course you do need a PS VITA, PS4 and a good wi-fi connection. I was able to play Arkham Knight in Texas on my PS VITA and my PS4 was in Ontario last summer.

Avatar image for coop36
coop36

@MAXTHUNDER99: Well, the Vita doesnt have Skyrim... so yes it is a selling point. lol. And obviously remote streaming on a Vita is not the same as what the Switch does. A Switch is both home console and handheld in one, so I dont see what there is to compare beyond the portable size of it?

If you think Nintendo is bad, then name one classic video game character that most people have heard about that is not a Plyastation or Xbox platform video game character. Oh right there isn't one... Therefore Nintendo is forever the greatest. I could be wrong though because I don't play Playstation or Xbox much

Avatar image for meeghoulz

@miles854: How many of these iconic characters are on the launch line up?2 or 3?Nintendo is doing a poor job of reminding anyone why their IPs are so great!Starfox made an appearance only in the end of the WiiU lifecycle,Metroid was totally forgotten in the year of its anniversary.F-Zero is no more...no Pokemon announced!newer generatios didn´t get a WiiU for xmas, children these days recognize the Call of Duty logo easily, but the mustached plumber? Not quite.

Avatar image for galactic88

@meeghoulz: No Donkey Kong, New Earthbound, Star Fox, Metroid, F-Zero, Pokemon, Smash Brothers, Monster Hunter, Kirby, nothing of their iconic arsenal, and it's just sad. They haven't even announced any of these.

Avatar image for meeghoulz

@galactic88: Have no idea of what they are developing right now, but their silence means they might not be able to deliver 1st year, so my interest in getting one will have to be measured by some surpise game...Bayonetta 3?

Sadly the only game is Zelda breath of the wild for myself and I will be skipping the $452 console price tag, $90.40 on the game and $101.70 on the pro controller to get the WII U version for $90.40.

Before you call me a troll. I added a link on the price of the pro controller and then add 13% sales tax on top of it. I would have listed the others but it is sold out without the prices listed.

@rarerichz: it's sadly just the way of the world now (at least on the internet) it doesn't matter what the topic, games, cars, stores, sports.... there are people that hate it, and want to make sure you know they hate it, and pretty much you are wrong if you don't hate it too.

I only get nintendo stuff for fire emblem (although i got phoneix wright and ocarina of time on sale and i am now leaning towards trying out their other exclusives that i thought were overhyped like zelda, yes i have not played a zelda since the first one on nes lmao)

Im going to buy the switch. However.... This console is already a failure. Weak launch other than zelda. Mario is backed up to holiday 2017. And to top it all off AAA game davs for the most part have already made it clear that they will not be developing for the switch. So back to square one. A gimicky neat little toy that gas a great mario/zelda game and a few others but nothing else. This is why nintendo will never be anyones primary console ever again.

Avatar image for endersdragon

@mototim34: Name me the great exclusive launch titles of any console. Seriously other than the Dreamcast I can't think of a console since the SNES that had that many great launch titles, maybe the N64. The PS4 has a few decent exclusives now a few years after launch, the XB1 still is looking for that first decent exclusive. The PS3 and X360 both took years to get some good exclusives.

So in 2015, a typical Nintendo year (2016 they were clearly preparing for the Switch and didn't release as much) here were the Nintendo exclusives (both the 3DS, aka the best selling console currently being sold, and the Wii U) that got over a 75 on Metacritic:

Mario Maker

Xenoblade Chronicles X

Splatoon

Yoshi's Wooly World

Majora's Mask 3D

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight

Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX

Stella Glow

Etrian Mystery Dungeon

Yo-Kai Watch (US release)

Story of Seasons

And a few others I didn't include because I wasn't sure if they were exclusives.

This is in addition to the multiplats that they got, and will continue to get, and these were just the games that got US releases (keep in mind that the Japanese portable market is huge). Are you really trying to tell me that you couldn't support a console with this many good exclusives every single year?

P.S. going back maybe I should have done 2016... huge year for the 3DS even if it wasn't a good year for the Wii U.

Avatar image for rarerichz

@mototim34: HOLD ON who said AAA game devs aren't supporting switch for the most part? NAME ALL OF THEM RIGHT NOW YOU TROLL. NINTENDO SHOWED A HUGE LIST OF AAA DEVS. just because they aren't well known western devs does not mean there is no support. stfu trolling queen.

Avatar image for MAXTHUNDER99
MAXTHUNDER99

@rarerichz: Why are you calling him a troll? Is it because he/she is bashing your console of choice? What many third party developers have said is if it is close to the power of the XBOX One then they will bring their games over to the switch and seeing that it isn't we will be getting less AAA third party support. We only got Skyrim because that is a game from 2011 and the SWITCH can support it. NINTENDO has already discriminated certain developers/publishers with their policies or were just plain rude towards them.

@mototim34: Think there's more chance of people buying a Switch as their secondary console than a PS4 or an Xbox One. Bought a PS4 recently, but spend most my time Xboxing. Switch offers different gameplay and brilliant Nintendo titles, so I'm not worried if AAA 3rd party titles don't make it to Switch, I'd get them for Xbox or PS4 anyway.

Avatar image for otterbee
Otterbee

@sealionact: I think I would almost agree with this. PS4 has been the only console I bought in this last generation. I never felt the need to pick up an Xbox One. This is coming from someone who has bought every single console (home and handheld) for the past 4 or 5 generations.

The Switch doesn't interest me in the least...but, I'd probably be more apt to pick up one of them, than an Xbox One.
