Sony Online Entertainment and White Wolf Publishing have announced a pen-and-paper role-playing game based on Sony's popular online role-playing game EverQuest. The game will be released by White Wolf's Sword & Sorcery studio as a series of three hardcover books, beginning with the EverQuest Role-Playing Game: Player's Handbook in June.

The new tabletop game will use the d20 System, Wizards of the Coast's open-source role-playing system, which lets developers create their own games in any genre or setting using the same set of universal rules.

"We're thrilled to be working with the creative minds at White Wolf to bring the world's number-one online role-playing game, EverQuest, to a wider audience," said John Smedley, COO and senior vice president of Sony Online. "For many tabletop game fans who don't play PC games, this is the perfect opportunity to experience the game that has captured the hearts of millions of fans worldwide."

EverQuest is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game set in a medieval fantasy world. The game was first launched in 1999 and now has more than 410,000 players. Players of the online game will be able to easily convert their online characters to characters in the tabletop game.
