Ryan Murphy has reportedly cast long-time American Horror Story collaborator Evan Peters as Jeffrey Dahmer for his upcoming Netflix limited series, Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, according to Deadline. The show will also star another Murphy-verse regular, Niecy Nash, as well as Penelope Ann Miller, Colin Ford, and Shaun J. Brown. Netflix has yet to comment on this casting.

Monster is set to dramatize the real life events surrounding Dahmer, the serial killer responsible for the murders of 17 men over 13 years. The show will focus largely on the perspective of his victims and explore the various reasons Dahmer was allowed to kill for as long as he did, including police incompetence and general apathy toward the victims themselves, who were largely people of color. There were at least ten instances where Dahmer was very nearly apprehended by the authorities but ultimately allowed to walk free, which will feature heavily in the series.

While Peters is set as Dahmer himself, Nash will reportedly play Glenda Cleveland, a neighbor of the Dahmer residence who called police multiple times and even attempted to go directly to the FBI to alert them of Dahmer's suspicious and erratic behavior. Miller and Richard Jenkins will play Dahmer's mother and father respectively. Brown will play Tracy, Dahmer's final attempted victim who fought back and eventually escaped, which ultimately led police to finally make an arrest.

This will be the most recent true-crime inspired dramas produced by Murphy, who won an Emmy for The Assassination of Gianni Versace, which told the true life story of the murder of fashion mogul Versace and starred Darren Criss.
