Europe to get 36 Wii VC titles through March

Three dozen more retro titles set for download in the first quarter; Mario Kart 64, Super Mario World, Zelda: Ocarina of Time among confirmed titles.

Nintendo has promised a steady stream of new downloadable games for its Virtual Console service on the Wii, and today the publisher detailed its plans to keep the games coming for European gamers in the first few months of 2007. Nintendo Europe announced it will release 36 games for the Virtual Console over the first quarter of 2007. Of those games, 20 will be pulled from Nintendo consoles of yesteryear, while seven TurboGrafx-16/PC Engine games and nine Genesis/MegaDrive titles will be added to the service.

Titles which have so far been named for the Nintendo lineup include Mario Kart 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Street Fighter II: World Warrior, Super Probotector (Contra III: The Alien Wars in the US), and Super Mario World.

Some of the games from other systems have also been announced, with Sega offering Genesis titles Streets of Rage, Bio-Hazard Battle, Bonanza Bros, and Comix Zone. Meanwhile, Hudson will be releasing the TurboGrafx-16 games Soldier Blade, Double Dungeons, and New Adventure Island.

Comix Zone was a 1995 action game for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis set within the panels of a comic book. Double Dungeons was a 1989 role-playing game for the TurboGrafx-16 system that lets two players explore a mysterious labyrinth together, and Soldier Blade, also for the TurboGrafx-16 system, is a scrolling shoot-'em-up.

Virtual Console game prices start at 500 Wii Points for NES games, 800 Wii Points for Super Nintendo games, and 1,000 Wii Points for Nintendo 64 games. Wii Points can be bought for £14 ($27) for 2,000, and they can also be purchased by trading in Nintendo Stars, which gamers can earn by purchasing Nintendo products.

No specific release dates have been announced for the games.

This is a good list. The Virtual Console is shaping up nicely. It could overtake Live! Arcade if they keep releasing games at this rate. And if they made the games playable on the Wii the DS, that would be the icing on the cake.

Hope they release original Mario Kart :) But nice to see VC actually being good as opposed to a rarely used gimmick

Yay! Ocarina! Yay! Mario Kart! Yay! Super Mario World! Now i know you Americans are complaining that you have to wait, (welcome to our world) but i'm willing to bet that you get these games first... But it would be great if we were the onlys ones to get OoT for about 6 months/

why can't Nintendo release old games to VC worldwide instead of region by region? is it that difficult to do?

Look at it this way, they these games are OLD, so you are not really getting anything special other then ported copy. When there is a new release (maybe end of 2007) we get it first.

"where the heck is our list last time i checked this was a us site" well, dont know about you but my URL at the top clearly says: << LINK REMOVED >>. I know not all americans are complaining but those who are, stfu? You get almost every single product first so be patient for once like we have for so long, its not like Nintendo is only going to give Europeans OoT :P

Mario Kart 64, Ocarina of Time, and Super Mario World? Now that's the good stuff. I guess it's not too long before Nintendo gets those games out in America, and when they do, they'll about quadruple the Virtual Console's worth in gamers' eyes.

This is great. I bought a Wii to download old games for $10 each. Sweet. Now I only have to wait another year and a half for a "new" release.

Sweet, OOT seems to be good but who needs it when you have either Collectors edition or the bonus disk with Wind Waker to play it with? Easier enough to play it via disk than buy it on the shop.

GD: America already has OoT listed as one of the 'soon to be released' titles. Maybe you just need to wait for the news-flash to make it official.

SCREW EUROPE... the US doesn't have Donkey Kong Country, and we don't have Mario Kart 64, Ocarina of Time or Super Mario World. You know what we got? Urban Champion... and the shaft.

In reference to babyooshkas comment: Wikipedia is your official source? Please, you try to insult ppl asking when US VCs are coming out but aside Sega no one has really announced. So dont try to slam US ppl for asking when wikipedia is based off rumors and ESRB ratings, which tell us only that a games been reviewed and everything thereafter is speculation

i agree with meimnobody ebay and car boot sales are another matter, but buying these games from a professional second hand store (gamestation, amazon) is about the same price, maybe slightly more for the actual cart. i'm just waiting for them to let us buy wii points in the stars catalogue. finally, my 7500 stars will have a use!

What are these Nintendo Stars? Are they only for Europe? That sounds like a sweet deal to get some free Wii Points for buying other Nintendo products.

JLCrogue actually no the carts on a lot of the VC games are more expensive then you would think. Nintendo priced the games on to what the market would sustain. For those that want to hock the wii online contact your isp and see if the USB wifi connector works. AOL and a few other ISPs block it but don't block out certain routers. There is a hack to get around the AOL situation but not the other ISPs.

It's so much cheaper to buy the original titles on the actual console than these virtual ones... it shouldn't be that way.
