ESRB rates R-Types for PS3, PSP

New listing suggests Irem shooter compilation headed for Sony's latest systems in downloadable form.

Irem's classic side-scrolling shooter series R-Type supposedly toppled its last Bydo Empire in 2004 with R-Type Final. Since then various series installments have been remade and rereleased in a variety of formats, and an all-new R-Type game has been announced in the strategic spin-off R-Type Command.

Now it appears there's yet another R-Type release on the horizon, as the Entertainment Software Rating Board has updated its database with a listing for R-Types on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable. Initially published by ASCII on the original PlayStation in 1999, R-Types compiles the first two installments of the arcade shooter series and gives players infinite credits to plow their way through the notoriously difficult games.

Rated E for Everyone, the game is listed with SCEA as its publisher, a common designation for third-party PlayStation games that go up on Sony's downloadable game service. Both Konami's Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Namco Bandai's Tekken 2 for the PS3 and PSP are listed in the ESRB database with SCEA as the publisher.
