The trailer for Escape Room: Tournament of Champions is here. The sequel to the 2019 horror hit Escape Room arrives in theaters on July 16, 2021.

Escape Room: Tournament of Champions follows the two main survivors from the first movie's trapped-filled escape room games, Zoey and Ben, who set about trying to track down the Puzzle Maker, the malevolent figure behind them. Inevitably, they find themselves back in the game--only this time the rooms are a lot bigger and more dangerous, and as the title suggests, they are being pitched against survivors from other games. The movie looks a lot more expensive than its predecessor, but hopefully, it'll still maintain the first film's level of intense but fun scares. Check the trailer out below:

Escape Room: Tournament of Champions is directed by Adam Robitel, who helmed the first movie, and written once more by Bragi F. Schut and Maria Melnik. It stars Taylor Russell (Lost in Space), Logan Miller (Escape Room), Isabelle Fuhrman (The Hunger Games), and Thomas Cocquerel (The 100).

In a recent interview with CinemaBlend, Robitel spoke about creating the characters for the other contestants. "What I try to do is set up questions for each of them, like I did in the first movie," he said. "We're leaning into, 'Why does this person have a scar?' And 'Why is this guy seemingly reading the last rights to somebody?' There's one character who has an anomalous immune system, and so there's weird things that happen with pain. And so we're setting up all these questions (proving) that they're not your average characters. They each have a little mystery that speaks to the games that they went through."
