EQ: Frontiers enters open beta

Sony Online Entertainment opens the beta for standalone expansion of its console MMORPG.

Sony Online Entertainment has announced that EverQuest Online Adventures: Frontiers has gone into beta with 20,000 testers being allowed to test out some of the new features presented in the standalone expansion. The beta test will run until mid-September. EverQuest Online Adventures: Frontiers features a new playable race (the ogres), a new character class (alchemist), a new class mastery system, new items, new quests, new areas for high level characters to explore, and more.

"Beta testing is key to ensuring that our customers have the top-notch, quality entertainment that they have come to expect from SOE," said Michael Lustenberger, director of product marketing, Sony Online Entertainment. "With the help of our beta testers, we will be able to tune EverQuest Online Adventures: Frontiers for maximum enjoyment, turning it into another exciting addition to the EverQuest universe."

EverQuest Online Adventures: Frontiers is currently scheduled for release in November for the PlayStation 2.
