Epic takes over Unreal Tournament 2003

The developer takes full control of the upcoming PC action game to let Digital Extremes focus on Unreal Championship for the Xbox.

Epic has announced that it has taken full control of the development of Unreal Tournament 2003, its upcoming multiplayer action game, in order to let Digital Extremes focus on Unreal Championship, its upcoming action game for the Microsoft Xbox. Epic and Digital Extremes were previously developing both games together. The developers hope that having one dedicated team finish each game will be faster and that the two games will be more differentiated as a result. Epic is still working on a demo of the upcoming PC game but estimates that the demo is still more than two weeks away from release.

Unreal Tournament 2003 is the follow-up to the award-winning multiplayer action game Unreal Tournament. The game will improve on its predecessor with better artificial intelligence, new special effects, and new game types. We'll post more information about the upcoming game and the demo as it becomes available. In the meantime, take a look at our extensive preview coverage of the game.
