Today Epic Games revealed the Zen Garden application, powered by Unreal Engine 4. The app demonstrates dynamic environments and is a result of Metal, the new API that Apple announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) today.

According to the announcement, Metal has been designed to "dramatically improve the CPU efficiency of rendering on iOS devices". Access to the code will be available to developers after NDA's for the beta access have been lifted.

Epic Games will launch Zen Garden on the app store after iOS 8's public release.

Epic Games is also currently working on a new Unreal Tournament game, which is also powered by Unreal Engine 4. The game will be released for Windows, Linux, and Mac. Epic Games has not yet revealed a release date.

I wonder how long a mobile device could run this by its own power source? ... 20 minutes

It's not just for iOS. You can also port it to PC...but only if you're a subscribed user of UE4.

Isn't it awkward for Nintendo that a phone or a tablet GPU can outpower the Wii U?

The frame rate made it look shoddy while I was watching it. Makes me wonder how well this game will actually run.
When it was being streamed online, it was side-by-side along with the guy who was talking about it and the guy's frame rate was smoother, indicating that it wasn't the stream itself that had a frame rate issue, just the game.

There's still some time until it gets released though, so maybe they could polish it up a bit more before then.
It did however, look interesting.

Having spent a month with the engine, it is not ready for the average user, so buggy, lacking in features and there is no content there to work with. I'd rather go with UE3 or Source still for mapping, I still prefer Source over everything, such a nice engine and the community is 100 times bigger than anything else... well maybe not Unity.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Uh yeah, I've been using UE4 for months now. I think you're just trying to sound like you know something about a game engine you have no idea about. Buggy? Haha think again. UE4 is very well optimized for every platform, more so than UE3. A lot of indie UE3 games are being ported to UE4 for that very reason.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Btw, are you a game designer? If so, won't you be creating you're own content anyway?

<< LINK REMOVED >> Having used the engine since it's day one release I can't believe you'd say that. They've released tons of free AAA quality example content, with more coming all the time. I personally haven't encountered any bugs.

UE4 is like wonderful alien technology.
