Enter the Matrix sells 1 million

Atari announces that the game released last week to coincide with the debut of The Matrix Reloaded has shot to the top of the charts in its first week.

Atari has announced that initial sales numbers show that Enter the Matrix is currently the number-one selling game in North America and Europe, selling a combined 1 million copies in those territories. The game is scheduled for release in Japan on June 19.

"We are thrilled by these early sell-through numbers," said Bruno Bonnell, CEO of Atari. "These initial sales results exemplify the power of the Wachowski brothers' vision for the franchise. With the exceptional box office results of The Matrix Reloaded and the explosive sales of Enter the Matrix, we are witnessing the true convergence of Hollywood and gaming."

Enter the Matrix features original movie footage that ties into the story of The Matrix Reloaded and has multiple gameplay elements, including hand-to-hand fighting, driving, and hovercraft-piloting sequences.
