Infogrames' Atari division and Shiny Entertainment have announced that the development of Enter the Matrix is complete. All four versions of the game will ship on May 15, the same day as the theatrical release of The Matrix Reloaded. Enter the Matrix is an action game that puts players in the shoes of one of two characters introduced in the new movie. The majority of the game takes place in a conventional third-person perspective and is packed with combat that combines guns and a hand-to-hand fighting system full of moves choreographed by the people who put together the breathtaking action scenes in the movies. The game also includes a number of driving sequences and segments where players will have to take control of a hovercraft navigating the subterranean tunnels where the humans take cover in the real world.

"Over two years ago, Joel Silver, the producer of The Matrix trilogy, and the Wachowski brothers, the writers and directors, envisioned a new way that Hollywood and the video game industry could work together," said David Perry, president of Shiny. "Their concept required Shiny to build a video game containing every single element of the Matrix experience, and it was essential that this groundbreaking game be delivered on time with their movie, so Matrix fans could experience it all at once. Today, those objectives have been met, and soon gamers around the world will enjoy the results of this unprecedented collaboration, gaining a unique insight into the Matrix universe."

Enter the Matrix will feature full-motion video filmed on the movie's sets that tells a parallel story scripted by the Wachowski brothers. For more details, check out our previous coverage of the PS2, Xbox, GameCube, and PC versions of the game.
