Ellen Page Alleges X-Men: The Last Stand Director Brett Ratner "Outed" Her On Set

Page recalls comments Ratner made about other women on the set of the X-Men film.

Flatliners star Ellen Page has accused her one-time director Brett Ratner of publicly outing her to the cast of X-Men: The Last Stand, with no regard for the actress herself. Page's claim comes in a lengthy Facebook post that details several instances of alleged misconduct by the director, following multiple accusations of sexual assault and harassment.

In her post, Page writes, "I was eighteen years old. He looked at a woman standing next to me, ten years my senior, pointed to me and said: 'You should f*** her to make her realize she's gay.'" At this point in Page's life, she says she "had not yet come out to myself." Thus, having Ratner out her to the assembled cast and crew of the third X-Men movie at a meet-and-greet event before production commenced was violating.

No Caption Provided

This story, in particular, has been corroborated by Page's The Last Stand co-star Anna Paquin, who tweeted, "I was there when that comment was made. I stand with you."

"This man, who had cast me in the film, started our months of filming at a work event with this horrific, unchallenged plea," she says. "He 'outed' me with no regard for my well-being, an act we all recognize as homophobic." Unfortunately for the cast and crew of the film, Page says this wasn't the only incident of misconduct from Ratner during filming. "I proceeded to watch him on set say degrading things to women. I remember a woman walking by the monitor as he made a comment about her 'flappy p****,'" she says.

There was eventually an altercation between the two, as well. "He was pressuring me, in front of many people, to don a t-shirt with 'Team Ratner' on it. I said no and he insisted," Page remembers. "I responded, 'I am not on your team.' Later in the day, producers of the film came to my trailer to say that I 'couldn't talk like that to him.' I was being reprimanded, yet he was not being punished nor fired for the blatantly homophobic and abusive behavior we all witnessed."

The actress also discusses another instance in which a man in a position of power took advantage of the situation. "When I was sixteen a director took me to dinner (a professional obligation and a very common one). He fondled my leg under the table and said, 'You have to make the move, I can't,'" Page says. "I did not make the move and I was fortunate to get away from that situation." She says that mere months after that, she was assaulted by a film crew member and asked by a director to sleep with a man in his late twenties. It should be reiterated this all happened when Page was 16.

She is the latest in a long line of actors and actresses coming forward about the sexual assault and harassment they've faced throughout their lives. Recently, Star Trek: Discovery star Anthony Rapp alleged that fellow actor Kevin Spacey assaulted him when he was 14--Spacey was 26, at the time.

Rapp's charges led to Netflix cancelling House of Cards, which Spacey stars in. Additionally, director Ridley Scott announced he was cutting Spacey out of his upcoming film All the Money in the World, just six weeks before release. Christopher Plummer has been hired to reshoot all of Spacey's scenes as J. Paul Getty. According to Scott, he's still planning to make the December 22 release.

How can someone out you as being gay if in your own words you have not even come out to yourself yet? At that point it’s just a crude tasteless comment made by a crude tasteless idiot. Page is being a little too dramatic here, not to mention selfish. Ratner is a scumbag and is accused of some legitimately heinous acts against women. Let’s focus on those real victims and not on that one time he said something mean to you Ellen.

"Ok, now I am famous but i've been out of the major media for some time... Maybe I can bring that incident where someone implied I was gay on a set, and then everybody will think I am a real hero."

Whoever watched Ellen on Trailler Park Boys knew she was, as Larry David says, "pre-gay".

And about Louis CK, it is kind of messed up to ask if he could "play with him self". But well, he asked. The ladies then had the options to call the cops, go to media right away, tell the network's boss about this behavior, but no "I will allow him to do so, build up my career, and someday I can use it against him".

Why not name the director who tried to bed her and pimp her out at 16 years old!? Surely if the intention is stop sexual abuse, that would be the priority target for this actress? Ratner's comments may have offended (although I don't see how they can out her when even she didn't know) but surely the other director deserves the headline?

WOW I mean how many sexual misconduct accusations can I get from all my mates for whole past times!? Saying "it's gay!" or talking about approaching hot chick to get sex with her etc. If any of my mates will come up and start talking about our party times - I'm doomed AHAHAHAA....

Ellen realized she is late to the "party" and now accusing person who thought he is like "friend/mate" with her allowing himself trashtalks on the way to set or something? PATHETIC as to me.

Women in this country throw this stuff out with no proof and on top of it waits over 10 years. I hope there will be law suits over he said she said type of accusations. Which destroy people again with no evidence. The Louis CK incident is a joke the women went with it and the one that didn't never happened.

@jkittleson: Are you stupid or just lazy? Louis CK admitted that it happened. You must treat woman like shit, and vent on game forums hoping you can make others as shitty as you. People wait or never say anything at all, right now is the wave of pedo's, are you next?

@Fear_LS1: bro how the hell is Louis CK even in trouble. The women consented , this is a complete joke. Bro you should feel disgusted with yourself to think he should even be looked down upon. As far as I'm concerned those women are disgraceful for getting attention and a hand out. What a joke.

Show me female genital mutilation aside Africa because it doesn't happen. You think that's so cute oh she cut her mans penis off. You go girl.

If I did that I'd be looked upon as the worst human and career destroyed. It might be inappropriate but these SJW are taking it to far. I want female to be held with the same punishments as a man when it comes to touching and innuendo.

@Fear_LS1: bro get the Louis CK story right 4 out of the 5 women consented to the act. 1 didn't and said no so he didn't do it. So you have consenting adults agreeing to it and because he's successful they feel the need to slander and get a pay day. You don't see anything wrong with that?

@Fear_LS1: why don't you talk to a guy that spent many years in prison for rape only to be exonerated by DNA. You my friend are pathetic to think like that and people who think like you is the reason innocent people went to jail for false accusations of sexual assault. With the invent of DNA hundreds have been released. I feel sorry for you that you think in such a small box. Again it was 10 years ago and it's wasn't a crime anyways. For her to bring it up 10 plus years on her behalf is pathetic because it's he said she said. Think before talking bro. It's so easy to see.

@Fear_LS1: Now wait a second. You've heard of many and I mean many rape accusations that have been false and unfortunately due to people like you and the media they are guilty with thier life destroyed. One of the cases I remember was the Duke lacrosse team. Bro your putting women on a pedestal and act like they can't lie. Fact is there is no proof, it's he said she said, no crime reported, 10 plus years after incident. It's SJW like you that are quick to judge and male feminist that think women would never lie.

@YohanDeEmercer: Not to say this isn't something to be taken seriously, but if we dig 20+ year old incidents it means there will be many, many, many more. Most all have bumped into someones ass on some drunken night

Though the difference is here. Spacey's thing sounds like a separate drunken incident. Rattner just sounds like a bully.

so, obviously uncool, maybe a hostile work environment, sexual harrasment, and a clearly unacceptable thing for anyone, especially a boss to say. That being said....the comment quoted above doesn't out Paige, it does suggest that she might be gay, but its not really outing in my opinion, compounded with the fact that as she says, she wasnt acknowledging or aware or whatever, of that part of herself, makes it super insensitive and rude, but not outing. At best it was outing the other unnamed woman.

Did she go to middle school? high school? because dollars to doughnuts her classmates (unacceptable though it may be) said worse to her...are we going to hear allegations against them? It seems like a feelings hurt revenge scenario to me with Ratner (whom i dont give a shit about, completely ignorant of the guy, but sounds like an ass).

The article mentions assault at 16 by someone else, and an assault by a crew member, but what we are hearing about is the unacceptable comment made by ratner and not focusing on people who sexually assaulted? focusing your revenge on a person in power and money, and not at those who allegedly did worse things, tells me this is more about attention and career than social conscience or justice. Especially 'a director' at 16 who fondled her...the statute of limitations isnt up, why arent we talking about him and not the dude that ruffled your feathers? he could actually go to prison....Ratner will just have trouble making money...whats the goal?

While its a shortcoming of my own, I have a hard time getting too upset about any of this coming out of hollywood. Thats an industry that's been well known since its inception as exactly this, a place where men abuse women and women use their sexuality to get ahead, I knew it at 7 years old, before I knew what sex even was. Choosing a line of work knowing that's there is baffling to me, if its objectionable to you.

What a prick. Man, producers of hollywood are worst than those alien producers of the Earth Reality Show in that South Park episode. At least those dudes paid for company instead of being abusers. Reality really beats even the darkest and most irreverent comedy.

@mkeezay22: Well trying to have sex with minors isnt good but other than that, its no big deal.... All they have to do is say no, just like in this scenario...

This is a part of life and has been happening since the beginning of time. Its best to educate and prepare for such scenarios..

Dude is an a$$hole, but let's pump the brakes on the assault allegations with this one. I've had some pretty terrible things said to me throughout life, and I'm sure there will be more, but at no point should any of it constitute assault. Aside from verbally threatening someone's life, if you start prosecuting, or in 2017's case, digital lynch mobbing people for saying stupid a$$hole things, a precedent will be set where your speech may very well put you in front of an angry mob someday. It's not a safe way of dealing with speech, douchey or not.

I like how people "take a stand", but only years after. When it happens right there and then, do they storm out and quit their high paying gig? No. It's only after careers are established that they speak up. I also like how others in the cast witnessed the event, but ALSO said nothing... until now.

The guy's a douche nozzle. He made douche nozzle comments. She happened to be gay (or found out for herself later). Quit the job and then sue. THAT'S how people get the message that it is NOT okay.

@CyberEarth: In some cases I'd totally agree with you, but in this case I think it's probably likely that Ellen Page then was not in a great position to get blacklisted for smearing a well know director. That might have been her career. Plus, back then I don't know that you could just post this stuff on Facebook and have it snowball into the social media ****storm that it does now, where most folks are on your side and demanding the person you're accusing be punished.

I imagine it seemed better to just tough it out and hope the next project was working with better people. Now though, saying something doesn't paint such a big target on your own back, and it's more likely something will actually get done about it.

@swiftsails: I understand perfectly well, thank you. I just don't think it's "courageous" to accuse years later after your career has been made. You risked nothing. She seemed perfectly fine to cash her paychecks and continue making movies.

The hero does something immediately; the coward runs away and tells about it later. The douche nozzle director is still a douche nozzle, but Ellen Page is no hero. She was looking out for herself, first and foremost. Otherwise, she would have spoken up when it happened. Risked her career? Maybe. Lost her movie role? Possibly. But that's what courage is about - risk. Same goes for Anna Paquin, who also didn't say boo about it at the time.

@CyberEarth: Oh, to live in a world where things are as cut and dry as you believe they are.

This isn't about being a hero or a coward. Women in these situations who have pushed these feelings and events deep down inside their mind do not deserve your derision.

Your way of dealing with things is not the way that all people deal with things.

As for it being courageous, being put in those sort of situations comes with a degree of misplaced shame and embarrassment. Her desire to be honest and put the truth out there IS still courageous, despite the lack of risk toward her career.

@dashaka: I do not fault any person in any field who chose to stick it out in their chosen career.

I don't know what you do for a living, but if you were put in a situation involving sexual harassment or assault and you knew that if you opened your mouth, it may very well be the last time you work in that industry, would you do it?

Sometimes people choose to not let that person rob them of what they want their life to be.
