Elder Scrolls Online's Next Expansion Revealed, Will Take Players To Land Of High Elves

Join a new order and explore a new area.

The Elder Scrolls Online is getting another expansion in a few months, and this one will take you to the Summerset Isle. As with past expansions, Summerset also comes with a bunch of new content, including a story, an order, a new skill set, and jewelry crafting.

Summerset is the first big expansion for ESO since June 2017, when Morrowind was released. In contrast to that expansion, however, the Summerset DLC focuses on a location that's likely less recognizable. The Summerset Isle is the home of the Thalmor--also known as the High Elves--and hasn't appeared in an Elder Scrolls game since the first installment in the series, Arena.

In addition, the expansion comes with a new story that wraps up the plot that began in the Orsinium DLC, released back in 2015. There's also a new order to join, called the Psijic Order, and a new skill line based on the magic of the Psijic Order. Players will be able to craft jewelry with various powers and perks, as well. Finally, Summerset will come with a bunch of cooperative multiplayer content, such as a 12-player Trial, Delves, Bosses, and something called the Abyssal Geysers.

If you're new to ESO, you can jump into Summerset without having played the rest of the game; a tutorial and starter area will bring you up to speed. Current players, meanwhile, can bring their characters into the DLC or start fresh. High-level and beginning players can play through the DLC content together, as the game will scale to each player depending on their individual level.

The DLC costs $40, comes with the base game and the Morrowind expansion, and will launch on June 5 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. If you already own the base game, you can snag Summerset for $30. In addition, there are a couple of special editions available for purchase that include various in-game items and physical collectibles. Finally, if you pre-order the game, you'll get the Queen's Bounty Pack that comes with a handful of in-game goods.

You can play ESO for the next 4 days for FREE, with friends or solo, and if you like it buy the "Gold" bundle (huge amount of DLC) for $30.

That's what gor me into it two Xmases ago, and I just got back into it again last Fall.

It's not the deepest game in the world, but the core gameplay and progression loop is very satisfying.

Plus, John Cleese, Dumbledore, and THE God of War all voice chars in the main quest.

Yeah see that, that's how you properly price expansion content. Bethesda is generally as bad as anyone else for overcharging for little content, but ESO does not follow that trend. The CE should be amazing too,.as it was for Morrowind.

I don't play the online game, but I read the article with interest, wondering whether building out the Summerset setting within ESO could point to this setting being developed for ES6 as well.

Yes, I understand that ESO and ES single-player games are made by different studios within Zenimax/Bethesda, but there has to be some story/setting coordination.

Yes, I also understand that ESO and ES single-player games take place in different ages of Tamriel. Still makes me wonder.

This game sucks. My advice would be to just let it die.

@asnakeneverdies: It's one of the most popular MMOs on the market at the moment and it's come a long way since launch. It's the best MMO on the market IMO.

Loads of content (32 dungeons, 7 raids with this expansion, 2 arenas, and over 500 hours of quest content). It also has decent graphics and action-oriented combat.

@asnakeneverdies: For an MMO RPG, it's actually quite good.

For an RPG, it's pretty bland and repetitive.

If you like to grind through a HUGE amount of content, this game is for you.

This trailer makes me wish a new ES single player game would come out. Not fond of online games anymore, I had my fair share of Counter-Strike and Warcraft (12-14 hours gaming per day) and don't intend to return to those days.

Why on earth keep wasting time on mmo

That should be makeing single player E Scroll game. The company said last year save single player games but keep doing this mmo game. If don’t show next E Scroll game for single players for next two years I’m done buying games from that company.

@playstationzone: This is Zenimax that made this game, these people did not make Elder Scrolls single player games. Rest assured they are working on TES 6, that is Bethesda Game Studio.

@asnakeneverdies: @asnakeneverdies: Each one cater’s to a specific group of players. STO is scifi, Skyforge is a mix of fantasy/scifi, DCU is for superhero/comic fans, Neverwinter is for D&D fans and Trove is for, well, Minecraft fans with some fantasy thrown in. I’ve played all of them and they all are enjoyable to a certain extent, but may not be for everyone. I recommend at least trying them since they all have free to play options. As for your comment, I agree from a personal standpoint. To me, ESO is far more fun than any of them. However, I’m also a huge TES fan so that definitely plays a part in my enjoyment.

The title “Thalmor” and the race “High Elves” is not interchangeable. I believe you meant “The Summerset Isle is home of the Altmer*— also known as the High Elves”. The Thalmor are an Elven supremacist organization, originally setup by the Bosmer (Wood Elves) and the Altmer as a form of provisional government. Altmer is the actual name of the race known as High Elves.

@newbpwnr: Absolutely not. Lægolas (Q:Laicolasse) of the House of Oropher was a descendant of the Sindarin, a people known to have inhabited Beleriand, on westernmost Middle-earth, and that later emigrated across the Misty Mountains to Rhovanion and established the Woodland Realms of Greenwood the Great becoming Silvan Elves. He's said to have sailed to True West with Gimli the Dwarf, at the beginning of the Fourth Age of the Sun. He was an individual, not a people.

@asnakeneverdies: so Legolas is basically a wood elf type. It's amazing how many people couldn't grasp while watching the movies that not all elves have the same society system.
