Free is a nice price.

Bethesda will let anyone on PC or PlayStation 4 play The Elder Scrolls Online free this weekend as part of a special event. It's called an "extended" weekend free play period and that's because it starts tomorrow, which is Wednesday. If every weekend started on Wednesday, that would be nice.

The free play period officially begins for PS4 players at 12:01 AM ET on November 16. PC and Mac players on Steam can jump in starting at 1 PM ET. Bethesda said details about a free play weekend for Xbox One will be revealed "soon." The Elder Scrolls Online does not require PlayStation Plus, but Xbox One players must have an Xbox Live Gold membership to play the MMO. The free play weekend wraps up on November 20.

Here is a breakdown of what's included in the upcoming free play weekend, as written by Bethesda:

  • Access to the full The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited base game
  • 500 Crowns to spend in the Crown Store on fun costumes, unique pets, helpful scrolls, and more
  • Any characters created, Crown Packs purchased, or Crown Store items bought, as well as any progress made during the free play weekend, will carry over if the player purchases the game

People who participate in the Elder Scrolls Online's free play weekend qualify for Bethesda's "Trip of a Lifetime" giveaway, through which you could win an expenses-paid trip to an exotic place around the world. More details about the promotion, including full terms and conditions, can be seen here.

To celebrate the game's free weekend, Bethesda is discounting Crowns and all versions of the game, through November 28. Go to the game's website to learn more.

The Elder Scrolls Online's latest expansion was One Tamriel, which followed The Imperial City, Orsinium, Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood, and Shadow of the Hist.
