Eidos Shows Fear Factor

Eidos' upcoming adventure fuses the feel of Resident evil with a taste of Metal Gear Solid.

Comments

Shown today to editors, Eidos' Fear Factor is a PlayStation adventure game along the lines of Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid. In it, you act as one of three mercenary characters attempting to capture a fleeting female and sell her for money.

The game's environments are similar to the prerendered scenes in Resident Evil, but the FMV footage streaming or looping in the background gives scenes a busy city look. Though pretty early, the game had a nice look about it, with dramatic camera angles, letterbox view, and smooth transitions in and out of in-game engine cut scenes.

Unlike in Resident Evil, the characters can run and shoot at the same time, and when they hold a gun in each hand, they can fire at multiple targets. Hand-to-hand combat is also an option. The title of the game is a reference to its adrenaline meter, which acts essentially as a health meter - one that affects a character's performance when it's low. Fear Factor is being developed by Kronos and is expected to ship during the fourth quarter of this year.
