Eidos escorting Singles to North America

British publisher will bring the spicy European dating sim across the Atlantic--but only announces plans to distribute it online.

Shortly after it was announced last October, the makers of Singles: Flirt Up Your Life released several steamy screenshots of the game, which concerns keeping a cohabitating couple amorously inclined. While the images of scantily clad avatars didn't stir much controversy in the game's European target market, they did raise a few eyebrows across the Atlantic, where sexual subjects are more taboo.

Now it looks like North American gamers will get a chance to sample Singles' risqué gameplay for themselves. Eidos Interactive announced today that it is bringing the PC sim to Canadian and American markets. “Eidos is taking the idea of reality simulation up several notches [by] offering consumers the opportunity to not only develop relationships and manipulate character interactions but also to take on a voyeuristic role that is so popular in today’s reality television shows,” said Eidos Project Manager Tom Marx.

At first, Eidos' deal with Deep Silver, Singles' European publisher, sounded like a standard international distribution arrangement. However, in its release, Eidos only announced plans to distribute Singles via online download in "early summer 2004." No mention was made as to whether physical copies of the as-yet-unrated game would be shipped to retail outlets.
