Eidos Announces Whiplash
Eidos Interactive confirms that it will publish Crystal Dynamics' previously unannounced action game later this year.
Eidos Interactive has today announced Whiplash for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. The game, which is currently in development at Crystal Dynamics, will see you assuming control of two animal fugitives named Spanx and Redmond who are on the run from a product-testing corporation. In actual fact, you'll only be assuming the role of Spanx, but since he and Redmond are chained together, you'll effectively be in control of both of them. Fortunately, Redmond isn't all dead weight, and as you progress through the game you'll be able to use him to chain-whip attackers, swing over hazards, and create a flood by clogging a toilet, among other things.
"Today's sophisticated gamers expect more from character-based games than arbitrary collecting and monotonous platform jumping," said Noah Hughes, lead designer at Crystal Dynamics. "Our goal is to redefine this genre by adding relevance and depth to the gameplay while still remaining highly accessible."
In addition to saving their own skins, Spanx and Redmond are determined to bankrupt the evil corporation that imprisoned them, so as you progress through the game you'll be required to free other animals that you encounter and destroy property belonging to the corporation. Enemies you'll encounter as you progress through the game include scientists, surgeons, crooked security guards, and the evil CEO of the corporation.
"Crystal Dynamics has always been an internal hotbed of innovative ideas and creativity," said Rob Dyer, president of Eidos Interactive US. "Eidos firmly believes Whiplash will quench gamers' thirst for fresh, original gameplay. The game's focus on highly interactive environments, deep combat, mass destruction, and satirical humor along with the ultimate goal of 'bringing down the man' will appeal to gamers of all ages."
Whiplash is currently scheduled for release this fall. We'll bring you more information on the game as soon as it becomes available.
