Eidos announced today that it has signed a development deal with Sweden-based Avalanche Studios. Under the terms of the deal, Avalanche will develop an action game titled Just Cause, which Eidos will publish in 2005 for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC.

"Avalanche Studios offers a great fit to Eidos' product strategy of developing original content utilizing groundbreaking technology," said Martin Alltimes, Eidos' head of European external development. "Building on the excellent work to date, I am confident this relationship will produce an exceptional game."

Avalanche, founded in 2003 by Christofer Sundberg and Linus Blomberg, is a new studio with the stated goal of creating innovative games using its proprietary technology. Members of the studio have worked on such games as Chronicles of Riddick and Headhunter.

"We are very proud to be part of the Eidos developer network," Christofer Sundberg, director of Avalanche, said. "Our ambition is to build a long-term relationship with our publishing partner, and Eidos has already proven to be an excellent choice."

No further information has been released on Just Cause, but with its release slated for next year, GameSpot expects updates in the coming months.
