Amazon Studios has announced a three-picture and first-look film deal with iconic comedian Eddie Murphy. With this new deal, Murphy will be given three films for Amazon Studios as well as develop original projects for Prime Video and Studios with the option to star in them as well.

Back in March, Amazon released Coming 2 America, originally scheduled for theatrical release but sold from Paramount Studios due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Even though the film received mixed reviews, it was the number one streamed movie that weekend.

"Eddie is a legend both in front of and behind the camera," said the head of Amazon Studios Jennifer Salke in a press release. "With undeniable comedic and dramatic genius, he consistently delivers entertaining, original stories and characters to audiences around the world. We could not be more excited to help carry on the tradition and to officially welcome Eddie into the Amazon family."

Murphy has returned to TV in a big way the past few years especially with Netflix's Dolemite Is My Name and Feeding America Comedy Special.

Murphy will be returning to Netflix as he's producing and starring in the long-awaited sequel Beverly Hills Cop 4, as well as star opposite Jonah Hill in a Kenya Barris-directed comedy for streaming platform.
