ECTS: The Getaway Screens

Check out new details and screenshots of Sony's fast-paced European driving game.

The Getaway for the PlayStation 2 has been in development at Team Soho - a SCEE in-house development team - for quite some time. At the on-going ECTS show Sony has finally released some new screenshots of the game.

The Getaway follows the exploits of Mark, a professional robber trying to leave his past behind. Unfortunately, gang boss Charlie Jolson kidnaps his son and forces Mark to return to a life of crime. Studio Soho has apparently recreated 50 square kilometers of downtown London representing areas such as Kensington Place and the Tower of London. The developers wanted to create a living, breathing city and to that end they have created a so-called "evolving environment" in the game. For example, streets that are damaged during a car chase are being repaired when you return at a later date to the scene. Little details like this help create a realistic atmosphere in the game. Additionally, Team Soho promises that there will be over 50 playable cars that are all based on their real-life counterparts. Players must achieve their goals through 24 missions (12 per character).

GameSpot will continue to follow the development of The Getaway for the Sony PlayStation 2.
