"New hardware is always a positive for our industry."

EA is supporting the Nintendo Switch with a new FIFA game and now the publisher has explained why it's partnering with Nintendo on the console and teased that it could put out more games for it.

"What I like about Nintendo is that they come to the table with a slightly different approach," EA executive vice president Patrick Soderlund said in an interview with IGN. "They've done that in the past to great success, and sometimes not so much, but I think unless you're willing to think about something unconventional, it's going to be hard to break ground."

Soderlund went on to say that Nintendo "forces us to think differently." He added that the Switch, which is both a home and portable system, "challenges conventions."

EA is bringing a new FIFA game to the Switch. Soderlund said EA chose this game for the Switch because FIFA is the company's biggest brand and can reach the widest audience.

"It's the brand that spans across the most markets," he said. "It's the brand that spans the biggest age demographic. It's a mass market proposition. It's a game a lot of people want to play."

EA could bring more games to the Switch someday, Soderlund teased, saying FIFA for Switch is "our way of showing we're going to be there." He added; "We are not announcing anything [else] yet, but you can expect us to be there once the platform launches and takes off."

"New hardware is always a positive for our industry. It allows us to push forward."
