Unlike the NFL deal however, EA's latest football coup goes beyond the field. In addition to producing an AFL videogame in time for the kickoff to the 2006 season, the deal allows EA to share in the proceeds of one future expansion team.

Certainly, the idea of playing an AFL game is attractive, as the arena league's short field, high scoring games, and hard hitting seems tailor-made for the videogame era. One wonders, however, if this news has the developers at VC back in scramble mode, trying to sift through the quickly dwindling licensed football options that remain.
