EA May Have Accidentally Revealed What 2016's Battlefield Is Called [Update]

Yes, it's exactly what you thought it'd be.

Update: It looks as if the tweet was mistaken, as leaked images have revealed the new game's name is actually Battlefield 1. The official announcement is still scheduled to take place in a livestream you can watch right here at 1 PM PST.

Original Story: EA is set to announce its latest Battlefield title later today but may have revealed its name a little earlier than planned. This year's entry will be called Battlefield 5, according to a tweet from EA Access. Surprise.

The account for EA's digital game subscription service replied to a follower asking when Battlefield 4 and Battlefield Hardline had been added to the vault of games available to Access customers.

"It was a surprise for members to celebrate the Battlefield 5 event tomorrow," it replied.

This won't come as a surprise to many, given the game is being developed by DICE, which usually handles the core, numbered entries in the series.

However, there was some speculation that the series could return to the Bad Company spin-off series, or eschew the trend of futuristic warfare in favour of something like Battlefield 1943.

Battlefield 5 will be fully unveiled at 4 PM ET/9 PM BST, when EA will provide "a first look at the future of Battlefield" on its Twitch page. EA has shared a brief video teasing what's in store.

It was previously teased that the Battlefield series will return to a "military-style game" and is already shaping up to be a "fun, new Battlefield."

EA also previously said Mass Effect Andromeda Titanfall 2, and Battlefield 5 would be out during fiscal year 2017, which runs from April 1, 2016 through March 31, 2017.

A teaser for Titanfall 2 has been released and EA plans to fully reveal the game on June 12.

2015's Star Wars: Battlefront was also developed by DICE, which is responsible for the core entries in the Battlefield series. DICE has laid out plans to release free and paid expansions for Battlefront in the future.

Eh... This could be anything. I hope it isn't rehashed garbage with bad maps (like BF4), but we'll see. Wouldn't mind a new Bad Company title - it's way over due, imo.

Nice research GS...... "Never lost a man".....

They never lost a man through capture only. But lost many in other ways.

Holy shit guys, Battlefield 5 is coming after Battlefield 4.

Back in school when I asked, "What am I going to use these strange math skills for in life?" little did I know how handy it would be for counting franchise sequels in video games.

@bobafetthatesu: oh well, 4 minus 3. Odd way of using 1 to represent the first world war, but different.

Wow. Activision heard fans crying for Modern Warfare and gave everyone COD4. Fans at EA have been crying for Bad Company for ever now and the best we got was Hardline, which was utter crap.

Avatar image for lfebaggins

@sargentpsgamer: If they make BC3 now it'll jus ruin the bad company legacy anyway

Avatar image for thespicychiken

@sargentpsgamer: uh, you only get CO4 if you pay for the 80 dollar version of future warfare or whatever it's called. SO they can keep it! >:(

Avatar image for handofkain
handofkain

@sargentpsgamer: would you like it if you had to purchase Hardline (which is , to you, utter crap) to get Bad company? because that's what Activision seems to have given their fans with "infinite warfare"

Avatar image for sargentpsgamer
sargentpsgamer

@handofkain: It would have made that purchase a lot less painful. Plus by now Bad Company would be sold as stand alone.

There were more memorable moments in the Battlefield 4 campaign than there were in the last few Call of Duty games combined. I have no doubt Battlefield 5 will be fairly awesome. As long as they utilize the latest graphics and game engine it will be a showcase for PC gamers and possibly even the PS4.

By the time it's released new models of AMD and Nvidia cards should be hitting the market and likely be cause for an upgrade, of which I am ALWAYS looking forward to.

Avatar image for peterhorner1867

@bobafetthatesu: while I'm no lover of COD, I'd have to disagree and say that the bf4 campaign was singlehandedly the worst fps campaign I have ever played. It was painful

Avatar image for nl_skipper

@bobafetthatesu: The graphics aren't going to make the game better... The Bad Company series still seems to be everyone's favorite even though it's way behind in terms of visuals compared to 3/4 or even Hardline. Honestly, graphics is the LAST thing this series needs to improve over the more recent games... but you know they will anyway, so don't worry!

Avatar image for roler42

@bobafetthatesu: So memorable I quit the campaign one hour into it out of sheer boredom

Avatar image for nl_skipper
NL_Skipper

@roler42: Yea I thought it was awful... but I don't really like any recent military FPS campaigns, but at least CoD doesn't take itself so seriously, BF3/4 were way too intense for their own good imo, they need to lighten up!
