EA loses third wave of studio leaders in a week
Cut the Rope studio Chillingo founders Chris Byatte and Joe Wee depart mobile game publisher.
Battlefield and Mass Effect publisher Electronic Arts has lost yet another group of studio leaders. Cut the Rope studio Chillingo founders Chris Byatte and Joe Wee have left the mobile game studio that they founded in 2005.
EA purchased the United Kingdom-based Chillingo in October 2010 for $20 million in cash. According to their LinkedIn pages, both Byatte and Wee left EA officially at the end of December, 2013. The move was first reported by MCV.
It is unclear why Byatte and Wee left EA. A representative for Chillingo confirmed their exit in a statement to GameSpot, but declined to go into further detail on the matter.
Their decision to leave EA follows news that PopCap executives Dave Roberts and Jason Kapalka are on their way out of the EA-owned studio. Meanwhile, just last week, founders of the EA-owned Burnout creator Criterion Games, Alex Ward and Fiona Sperry, announced they had quit the studio.
More details on the recent spate of studio executive departures from EA may come later this month during EA's third quarter financial call on January 28.
Chillingo most recently published Fightback, the iOS fighting game from Devil May Cry and Enslaved: Odyssey to the West developer Ninja Theory.
