EA Ending Support for The Sims 2, But Offering Free Upgrade to Ultimate Collection

Electronic Arts announced today that it is ending support for 2004 life-simulation game The Sims 2, also revealing that owners of digital copies will be upgraded to the Ultimate Collection at no extra cost.

EA announced the news on its support site today, saying the company will no longer provide any new content for The Sims 2 or release any additional technical updates for the game. Of course, if you encounter an issue with the game, EA isn't turning its back to you. "If you have a problem with your game, you are of course still welcome to contact us here at EA Help," the company said.

As for the free upgrade to The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection, anyone who owns a digital copy of The Sims 2 will receive the premium pack for free sometime in the next five days. All you need to do is log in to Origin and visit your My Games library to see the free game.

The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection, as its name suggests, is an all-encompassing bundle. It includes the main game, as well as every expansion pack for The Sims 2 ever released. If you want to remove the standard Sims 2 from your game library, all you need to do is right-click on the game and select "hide tile."

The next entry in the Sims series is this year's The Sims 4, which comes to PC on September 2.
