Xbox Live Gold members wondering if paying for another subscription service is worth it will be able to find out next week. EA's monthly Access program is free for all Gold members next week.

No Caption Provided

Starting January 19, EA Access will be offering 14 free games to Gold members until January 24. Among the games included is Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare, which is seeing a sequel come out in February. Characters unlocked in the original Garden Warfare will carry over to Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2, which releases on February 23. Garden Warfare 2 will be available to EA Access subscribers before it hits shelves. EA digital content is also discounted by 10% for subscribers.

The full list of available games is as follows:

  • Battlefield 4
  • Battlefield Hardline
  • Titanfall
  • Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare
  • FIFA 14
  • FIFA 15
  • Madden 25
  • Madden 14
  • NHL 15
  • NBA Live 15
  • EA Sports UFC
  • Dragon Age: Inquisition
  • Need for Speed: Rivals
  • Peggle 2

After January 24, players will have to subscribe to EA Access to continue accessing the EA Vault. It costs $4.99 per month, or $29.99 per year.

EA Access is only available on the Xbox One. Sony said no to the program coming to PlayStation 4 because it wasn't a "good value" for PlayStation fans. EA recently launched a similar program called Origin Access on PC.

Don't mind the haters guys, EA Access is totally worth it and you gets to try games before you can buy the full version and you'll get discount if you decide to buy, it has good benefits. You have to try the service for yourself and make a decision, don't listen to haters who some of them don't even have EA A subscription.

It's not worth it and I have it (until it's cancelled at the end of the month). Like $30 a year is whatever, I spend more money a year on toilet paper, but there's just nothing to offer... I mean I already own every game on the list that isn't a sports game, so really this is great for sports game fans, but as of right now, it's like subscribing to a channel that only broadcasts static.

Sweet. I'll certainly give it a try, there's some good games on there that I haven't got around to playing yet.

I been using EA Access for a while now and I gotta say, it's at least better then using PS Now for the most parts and I think i got my money's worth with EA Access. Nice that MS is letting there fans testing the waters out if they think EA Access is worth it or not.

@davillain-: Not sure if you intended to point it out or not, but I think it would be a good idea for Sony to do a free week or weekend of PSNow. People might be more open to using the service more often if they had a good idea of how it performs/what content is available. Or just because they still have 2 levels to go on a game they tried the week before.

@suicidesn0wman: I use PS Now in the past and I honestly think it was good but you need a good Wi-Fi to maintain Now but I saw the service wasn't for me, so I didn't bother with it from that point on. Sony has a free trail for one week if anyone wanna try PS Now.

@davillain-: Why are you comparing Electronic Arts Access to Playstation Now, when EA Access has only EA games and PS Now has variety of different third party developers? What if people want to play games from other developers such as Ubisoft, Activition, Capcom, Rockstar Games etc not just EA games. I only liked BF4 from the list and I already own it. I know that what you wrote is your opinion, but I don't feel it's worth the money just yet.

@masta_js: For most it's a good deal. Although not to those of us who already own a large proportion of the games on offer.

I'm selling my BF4 disc and want to give HARDLINE a whirl so I'll put down a good 29.99 per year. Anyways with the free access to games 10 hours when they release it'll be worth it.

Edit: I'll use EA Acess to continue playing BF4 and I dout I'll enjoy HARDLINE... An another thing?

EA just doesn't offer the variety of games I'm interested in. The primary focus are sports titles. If you're a sports fan, EA (Origin) Access is probably a good deal.

Some people get excited about early access games and betas. So they may find that also makes it worth it.

Idc if EA wants to have this type of control over their games. Origin may be annoying but it's a tiny program that does not interfere with system performance. However I do agree with Sony that EA is actually complicating things for the customer. I'd be more interested in a platforms library than EA Access, which is what Game w/Gold and PS+ are... So on console, it seems EA could have just added more games to those services. On PC, all they're games are on Origin so it's more appropriate there, even if gamers would prefer it be a part of a larger library of games from multiple publishers.

The first hit is free.

Unfortunately, after that you come off your high and still realize you put EA up your nose (or got drunk and slept with them if you want a different metaphor) and have to deal with the resulting shame and humiliation.

Horrifying mental images aside, the problem that companies like EA and to a lesser extent Ubisoft (Uplay) are running into when they try and get a little bit of the action that Steam and (to a vastly lesser extent) GoG Galaxy enjoy are as follows:

1. Giant barriers to entry based on limited selection and how long they've been around. I look at the list of games in this article and there's only one game that interests me. That's Dragon Age: Inquisition...which I already own. I was forced to install the Origin cancer on my computer to play it, which made me feel dirty as all hell, but I already own it. There's nothing else compelling to me about that list.

Steam and GoG on the other hand, have giant libraries of games. Some I own already but like having conveniently in the same place without needing to pull my physical copy off the shelf and install and patch to work with modern operating systems. But the point is, there's more value there than one specific company's catalog of games that I'm mostly not interested in. (That I can only no longer play online anymore because that company took the servers down to try and force me onto their ****y new distribution system or onto the next iteration in the annual franchise.)

2. Trust. I could put this more delicately, if I actually gave enough f***s to bother, but I don't. So I won't.

I don't trust EA. I don't LIKE EA. Even if they had all the advantages and extra benefits that Steam and GoG had and their sum total offering of their EA Access program wasn't the ability to play their games a few days early or play a bunch of older games instead of finding them online for $1 or so on Ebay or whatever, I'd STILL stick with Steam and GoG because I actually LIKE them.

They haven't been dicking over the industry for decades now. You reap what you sow sort of thing.
