Not-E3 2023 Schedule: Summer Game Fest, Xbox, Starfield, And All The Major Gaming Events

E3 is not happening this year, but it was never the only show in town anyway.

Most of June's big gaming events are now in the rear-view mirror, but there's still more to come, even if E3 itself has been canceled. Below, we run down the full schedule of what's happened (complete with links to our recaps of the biggest events) and what's still to come, including the Capcom Showcase,

Sony's PlayStation Showcase kicked things off on May 24 with some big PS5 reveals. Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest keeps the party going on June 8, and the festivities keep rolling that weekend with Xbox and Starfield events.

These will be followed shortly thereafter by even more showcases, including the PC Gaming Show and Ubisoft Forward. So while E3 2023 is not going forward, the week it was scheduled for will still be quite busy (and hopefully exciting!). Beyond that, June won't be the end of things, as Gamescom takes place in August with its usual Opening Night Live event on August 22.

And, as usual, we would not be surprised to learn about additional events in the time to come. Nintendo is always a wildcard, so we would never be surprised if the Mario company announces another Direct out of nowhere; last year it hosted a Direct Mini in June. Below you can see the schedule as we know it so far--keep checking back for updates.

"During the showcase, every game shown will detail a selection of their accessibility settings offerings, to make sure that gamers watching at home know with confidence if they’ll be able to play an exciting looking game that catches their eye," reads a line from the announcement. "We've got release date reveals, exclusive trailers, and discussions of brand new gameplay features. Our aim is to make sure that if a game looks exciting, you don't have to worry about getting hyped, only to learn later that a game doesn't support your needs as a player."

Wholesome Direct

The Wholesome Direct event is coming back this year with a 2023 edition that is slated for Saturday, June 10. The event begins at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET.

Sometimes you just need a game to be a little comforting refuge from the stress of, you know, everything. Enter the cozy games genre, sometimes called wholesome games. These low-stress experiences are meant to be relaxing, friendly escapes. And that's what the Wholesome Direct showcase celebrates. It's like if herbal tea were a video game. There is no word on what to expect from the 2023 show, but we are definitely hyped for it.

Starfield Direct

After Bethesda's big release in May, Redfall, came up short with critics, many will be looking to Starfield to rev things up. Starfield, a sci-fi RPG, is Bethesda Game Studios' first new IP in 25 years, so fans are understandably excited and interested in the Starfield Direct on June 11.

BGS' first new game since 2018's Fallout 76, Starfield is directed by Todd Howard and made by the team that created Fallout 4 and Skyrim. We can expect the Starfield Direct to dive deep into Starfield and give players reasons to get excited ahead of its highly anticipated launch in September. A start time for the Starfield Direct was not announced, but it will immediately follow the Xbox Games Showcase.
