The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has made the decision to cancel this year's E3 due to concerns over the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. Now, Final Fantasy VII Remake developer Square Enix has commented on the ESA's decision.

Square Enix said on Twitter that while it's disappointed E3 2020 won't take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center this June, the company ultimately understands, respects, and "supports the ESA's decision to cancel E3 2020." Much like other companies--including Limited Run Games, Ubisoft, and Xbox--Square Enix is "exploring other options" to get whatever news it has planned to fans.

Other companies have responded to E3 2020's cancellation as well, including Devolver Digital, Nintendo, THQ Nordic, and more. We've rounded up a ton of reactions from developers and publishers, and will continue to update the list as more come in.

"As the world has echoed and united, nothing is more important than protecting the health and well-being of our employees and their families, our partners, and unquestionably, our fans," the statement reads. "We support the ESA's decision to cancel E3 2020 and send our strongest heartfelt appreciation to everyone that works tirelessly to bring unforgettable games and experiences to E3.

"We understand this is disappointing not only to our respective developers and publishers, but also to thousands of fans who venture from afar to celebrate games at E3. We're right there with you.

"Our 2020 lineup, and the next-generation that lies beyond, is stronger than ever for Square-Enix. Where E3 has always been an incredible moment in time to showcase our upcoming games, we're exploring other options to share our games with you. More to come, stay tuned."

While E3 2020 may not happen in the physical sense, the ESA has said it's considering turning the annual trade show into an "online experience" this year. The ESA also said E3 will return next year as "a reimagined event that brings fans, media, and the industry together in a showcase that celebrates the global video game industry."
