We got to see some great games from Square Enix at E3 2019, including Marvel's Avengers and Final Fantasy VII Remake. But we also got the surprise reveal of Final Fantasy VIII, among other things. Here are all the news and announcements.

Marvel's Avengers was revealed at long last during the broadcast, and although we didn't see a ton of gameplay, we did find out its release date (May 2020), beta (coming to PS4 first), cast, and more. It allows for four-player online multiplayer co-op and initially features Thor, Black Widow, Iron Man, Hulk, and Captain America. However, more characters will be introduced in the future for free.

Now Playing: Every Big Square Enix Game And Announcement At E3 2019

What could have been one of the biggest announcements of the event, Final Fantasy VII Remake's release date, was actually revealed on Sunday night, as the game will be coming in March 2020. That coincided with the release of a new FFVII trailer, but the PS4 remake was featured more extensively at the start of Monday night's conference with a gameplay demo and combat breakdown featuring Cloud and Barret. We also got word on a pair of special editions that will be available, including the $330 1st Class Edition. Fans of the series will also be excited to hear a remastered Final Fantasy VIII was also announced and is set to release in 2019.

Square Enix had teased a brand-new game called Outriders, and that was revealed as the new game from People Can Fly. We also saw Dying Light 2, Dragon Quest XI, which is coming to Nintendo Switch, Dragon Quest Builders 2 (getting a demo on PS4 later this month), and more.

Marvel's Avengers

The Avengers presentation started with a cinematic featuring Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, and Black Widow. This is intercut with what appears to be very brief glimpses of gameplay (or cinematic footage meant to look like it). You'll play as those five characters, who are played by Nolan North (Tony Stark/Iron Man), Troy Baker (Bruce Banner), Jeff Schine (Captain America), Travis Willingham (Thor), and Laura Bailey (Black Widow). Also, a beta is coming to PS4 first, with pre-orders getting you guaranteed access. You'll be able to play online with groups of up to four, customize a "growing roster of heroes," and more. There won't be anything pay-to-win and no loot loot boxes, and new characters will be added for free. The game is coming to PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia, with the PS4 version getting some kind of "unique benefits" that weren't detailed. A release date was also confirmed: May 15, 2020. All of that said: the internet has not been kind.

The conference started out featuring the PS4 remake of Final Fantasy VII. Yoshinori Kitase, the producer on the game, took the stage following a brief trailer to talk about what's new. He revealed the game is expected to span two Blu-ray discs. The initial portion of the game expands on the story of Midgar. From here, we got to see some gameplay and combat featuring Cloud and Barret--there were quite a few trailers. All of this was followed by a look at some special editions, including the Deluxe edition and 1st Class Edition. Pre-orders are live.

Final Fantasy VIII Remastered

Not content with Final Fantasy 7 and 14 getting so much attention, Final Fantasy VIII Remastered was announced. It doesn't appear to be anywhere near the same level of visual improvement as 7, but it's releasing this year for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC (on Steam).
