Releasing next month.

Nintendo's E3 2019 Direct has seen the company make several announcements for some of its most anticipated games, including Luigi's Mansion 3 and The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening remake. We were also treated to a new story trailer for Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

Three Houses takes a Harry Potter approach to Fire Emblem's tactical role-playing, choice-driven narrative formula. You play as Byleth (either male or female), a teacher at the Officer's Academy. The academy is divided into three houses, each led by a powerful individual who hails from one of the three nations that make up the continent of Fódlan. Edelgard is the princess of the Adrestian Empire, Dimitri is the prince of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus, and Claude is the heir to the leading house of the Leicester Alliance.

Now Playing: Fire Emblem: Three Houses - Nintendo Direct Overview Trailer

At the start of Three Houses, you'll have to choose which student to take under your wing. From there, you're tasked with guiding them and their classmates as best you can. As soon-to-be leaders of their respective countries, your students must take part in real diplomatic negotiations and battles between their studies. Your actions and dialogue choices influence the type of leader they become and this in turn changes the direction of the overall story. Sometimes, your decisions might even lead to the death of a student.

Three Houses is a change of pace for Fire Emblem, as most of the series' previous titles put you on relatively equal footing with your followers as friends or lovers. In Three Houses, you're much older than the other main characters. Because of the age gap, there's an implication that Three Houses will not feature romance in the traditional sense. It would be a little odd for the game to allow a teacher to romance one of their students.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses is scheduled to come to Nintendo Switch on July 26. You can pre-order it now.
