Among the news to come out of Ubisoft's E3 2018 press conference was that of a new Trials game. The hybrid racing/platforming game series is getting a new game called Trials Rising, and it looks to bring back the core gameplay Trials is known for. This was all announced with creative director Antti Ilvessuo appearing on stage, crashing through a piece of furniture, and then proclaiming himself the prime minister of Finland. Yeah.

Rising is a collaboration between Ubisoft RedLynx and Ubisoft Kiev. One of the headlining features, as seen in the debut trailer, is the ability to ride around the world--the settings range from desert canyons to city streets to football fields. Some areas are set high above the ground and generally look to be fairly wacky. You'll also still crash in ridiculous fashion, being crushed by wrecking balls and knocked by enormous fans into the distance.

For all its silliness, Rising still looks to offer a challenge, as it appears that having extreme mastery over the game's controls will be necessary as you balance on precariously small platforms. It releases on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC in February 2019.

Ahead of its release, a beta will be available for Trials Rising. You can sign up for access at the official website.

The most recent game in the Trials series is Trials Fusion. That took the franchise in a futuristic direction but still maintained the typical Trials-style gameplay. If you're eager to get a taste of what Trials is like ahead of Rising's release, Fusion is actually free right now on PS4 for PS Plus members. It will remain a Plus freebie until July 3.
