At the EA Play press conference during E3 2018, the company took a few moments to outline its roadmap for the future of Star Wars Battlefront II. Design director Dennis Brannvall admitted the game had a "rough start" after its controversial launch last year, but he insisted that EA remains committed to the title. To that end, he explained what's coming next for the Star Wars shooter: the iconic Clone Wars.

This year, Battlefront 2 will get a load of new content based on the prequel conflict, including several new heroes and villains, as well as iconic locations from the Clone Wars setting. The content will kick off with Geonosis, which EA says will feature "multiple levels," including the largest one it has ever designed for the game. Additionally, General Grevious, Count Dooku, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Anakin Skywalker are all slated to arrive in Battlefront II as new Heroes.

Now Playing: Star Wars Battlefront 2 Clone Wars Announcement | E3 2018

EA didn't announce exactly when it will begin rolling out Clone Wars content for Battlefront II, but that's only one component of the company's ongoing support for the title. EA recently kicked off Han Solo season in the game, which saw the addition of the Jabba's Palace map and several new Appearances. Solo-inspired content--including Alden Ehrenreich's Solo and Donald Glover's Lando Calrissian--is also scheduled to arrive very soon, on June 12.

Beyond the new Clone Wars and Solo content, EA will introduce a new squad system to Battlefront II this summer, which allows players to more easily team up and play with friends. The developer is also going to add a new Starfighter mode that focuses on dogfights with Hero ships, as well as a new "large-scale multiplayer sandbox experience" that revolves around capturing command posts and attacking Capital ships.

The Clone Wars news joined another Star Wars announcement made during the EA Play presentation. Respawn's Star Wars game is called Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order, and it takes place in the dark times after the Emperor exerts his control over the galaxy. It's coming in holiday 2019.
