E3 2018: Resident Evil 2 Third-Person View Confirmed Alongside Trailer And Release Date
Still as spooky as you remember.
Little has been said about the Resident Evil 2 remake since it was first revealed, but Capcom came to Sony's E3 2018 press conference with something substantial to show. While it was not a gameplay demo, we did get a trailer that showcases what the survival-horror game will look like on PS4.
It started out with a curious perspective as you see through first-person from unusual angles, as if you're a tiny creature. From there, you see a person attacked by a zombie, only for Leon Kennedy to shoot the enemy in the head.
From there, we see a few other shots from around Raccoon City that give us a basic idea of what everything will look like. Unfortunately, there was no proper gameplay footage in this video, but after having so little idea of what to expect from the project, it was still exciting to see anything at all. [Update: We've now gotten a look at gameplay, too.]

A press release for the game confirms a shift to a third-person perspective and boasts about new visual effects. Resident Evil 2's remake features a "new photorealistic style" that makes "the characters themselves appear sharper than ever and the grotesque hordes of zombies are brought to life with a horrifyingly realistic wet gore effect. Zombies now react in real time as they take instant visible damage, making every bullet from the player count. Stunning lighting brings the familiar rooms and corridors of Raccoon City Police Department to new life."
Alongside the brief trailer, Capcom confirmed a release date of January 25, 2019 and the fact that it's simply titled Resident Evil 2. Pre-orders are available now, and although the game was shown during Sony's event, it's also still coming to PC and Xbox One.
Capcom created an HD remaster for Resident Evil as well, and the game went on to break Capcom sale's records. Resident Evil HD Remaster was the fastest-selling digital title in Capcom's history across both North America and Europe. Perhaps Resident Evil 2 Remaster will turn out to be the game to break that record.
