E3 2018: Rage 2 Extended Gameplay Look Explores The Wasteland

Walker, wasteland Ranger vs giant football beast.

Bethesda took the wraps off of Rage 2 early--possibly due to some Walmart shenanigans--but today we got our first deep-dive into the game. Bethesda devoted a significant chunk of its E3 2018 stage presentation to the game, giving us a better idea of just what to expect from this journey into the wasteland.

After a brief musical introduction by Andrew WK, Bethesda introduced the protagonist: Walker, the last ranger of the wasteland. We followed along with Walker on on a mission to find a rare artifact that could help him take down the planet's authority. Walker traversed the world in both vehicles and on-foot, showing some seamless switching from one to the other. Bethesda promised that when it comes to vehicles, if you can see it anywhere in the world, you can drive it.

Now Playing: Rage 2 Gameplay Trailer Breakdown

The studio called it the "most insane open-world shooter you've ever played," and the closer look showed off why. A variety of weapons and abilities were shown off, from guns to a boomerang to a Force-like push ability. An Eco-pod was called down from the sky to deliver a new ability, and the look culminated with a giant beast wearing a football helmet. You can watch the game in action in the video above.

The middle of the trailer even included a tease for a collector's edition. The closer look at Rage 2 ended with a release window of spring 2019. And for even more Bethesda news, check out our press conference news roundup here.
