Now Playing: The Elders Scrolls: Blades E3 2018 Gameplay Demo | Bethesda Press Conference

The next Elder Scrolls game has been announced. Named Elder Scrolls Blades, it's apparently a "pure Elder Scrolls game" with "console-quality graphics" despite seemingly being a primarily smartphone-based game.

Publisher Bethesda calls Blades a "uniquely mobile experience." However, the company also said it's working on bringing the game to consoles, PC, and VR. It's free, and coming to iOS and Android this fall. Pre-orders are open on those platforms right now, and you can also pre-register for early access on Bethesda's website.

The game contains PvP--which is also cross-platform, meaning a PC player can play against an iOS one. It also has a town-building mechanic: as you build up your town over time, you'll unlock new NPCs and quests. That's not to say it's a pure city-builder, though. Blades contains combat in the same vein as the fighting Elder Scrolls fans will be familiar with.

Elsewhere in Bethesda's E3 2018 conference, the company announced new Prey and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus DLC, as well as a full-blown Elder Scrolls VI. For more check out our roundup of all the Bethesda press conference news.

This is actually exactly what I expected with the state of gaming in 2018.

Wish they'd spend this time working on ES6. I'm not likely to be glued to a tiny screen to enjoy an Elder Scrolls game... I want my big 4K monitor!!!

Avatar image for maitkarro

@GT_APE: They are, this is just another dev team, like Diablo 3 has 2 different dev teams, one for consoles one for pc, mind these elder scrolls games not even being the same game.

They deserve huge praise for having multiple concurrent control schemes, and the portrait mode. Hopefully this sets a new standard.

Having a Rogue mode likely guarantees I'll at least install the game. Whether or not I play it more than one day will be determined by how well it holds up in-flight without an online connection.

I'll pass. Mobile games are garbage.

Avatar image for Pyrosa

@burnettaj: LOL... Clearly you haven't seen all the AAA titles ported to mobile, and don't travel much.

Not keen on playing this without some kind of controller. Could I get this on the Switch maybe?

You know what, I'm excited.

I wasn't when I read the description, but after watching the video I really am. This looks like a modern take on classic dungeon crawlers, and that sounds pretty awesome. It's not going to be a full-fledged ES game, and those green gems reeked of "premium currency", but the combination of exploration, dungeon crawl, and city building is intriguing.

Here's hoping it doesn't suck.^^

Hopefully it'll support controllers on mobile and not just be touchscreen trash.

You're better than this Bethesda. Leave this garbage to EA.

@todddow: Bethesda has made MILLIONS on mobile gaming. Whatever ideal you have in your head is factually incorrect.

Elder Scrolls Legends

Fallout Shelter

Avatar image for kanekan-slaugh

@todddow: actually fallout shelter is pretty good, if they keep up not being stupid then it'll be great. Besides they announced Elder scrolls 6 anyway.

Avatar image for Pyrosa

@kanekan-slaugh: Agreed. The game was surprisingly fun, once you got into the site exploring and outfitting characters with found gear.

Avatar image for kanekan-slaugh

@Pyrosa: Better yet, no horrible practice was used. Everything can be done without paying.

Looks cool to me. I'm going to play this and Fallout 76. I'm glad to see Bethesda putting out a wide variety of types of games.

Free-to-play mobile shit.

Actually, the second next ES game is EXACTLY what I expected.
