E3 2018: Assassin's Creed Odyssey Allows You To Play As A Man Or Woman

The choice is yours.

The Assassin's Creed universe has a penchant for male protagonists, but Assassin's Creed Odyssey is looking to break from tradition again. For the second time in one of the series' core titles, players will be able to play as a female character if they so please, Ubisoft revealed during its E3 press conference.

Unlike the forced switching of sibling protagonists Evie and Jacob Frye throughout the story of Assassin's Creed Syndicate, Assassin's Creed Oydssey will let you choose between one of its protagonists, Alexios or Kassandra, to play for the entirety of the game.

Now Playing: Assassin's Creed Odyssey - Official Announcement Trailer | E3 2018

Playing as either Alexios or Kassandra will not affect the story or gameplay. However, both characters will have different voice actors and character models, similar to how the male and female Commander Shepards were treated in Mass Effect.

Kassandra is hardly the first female playable protagonist in the franchise's history; however, many of those female characters have been featured in smaller spin-off titles. Evie Frye was the first to be featured in a core title, but Aveline De Grandpré, from Assassin's Creed III: Liberation, was the first playable female character ever in the AC universe. Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China also featured a playable female assassin, Shao Jun. However, Kassandra will be the first playable female lead for the entirety of a mainline Assassin's Creed entry.
