Now Playing: Monster Hunter World Reveal Trailer - E3 2017

GameSpot may get a commission from retail offers.

Capcom's popular monster hunting series is making a return to Sony consoles. During Sony's E3 2017 press conference tonight, the company unveiled a new installment in the series called Monster Hunter: World. The game was revealed with a beautiful trailer that showcased some new and returning elements from the series.

Like the recent 3DS installments, players can scale walls and leap onto monsters to attack them. The trailer also showcased many new elements, such as a new weapon that resembles a machine gun and a grappling hook that allows you to swing. Players also now have the ability to fire off flares.

Just last week, Capcom filed a trademark for Monster Hunter: World, which led many to speculate the company was planning to reveal a new installment in the series.

Monster Hunter: World is releasing early 2018. The game is also coming to Xbox One and PC, the latter of which will be released after the console versions.

Never gave the series a shot outside of playing demos. The fact that this looks amazing and is making it's way to PC might be enough for me to actually buy this one. Very happy to see all the PC support recently.

A monster hunter game? On consoles & PC? And, I don't need to go on a 10 year quest for a Nintendo switch, nor settle for a Wii U, and it's literally hand full of games library?

Where do I pre-order?!?

Very interesting and a series I adore, however I wish to know more on the title, and how multiplayer works in this title. Is it jump-in and play summoned from a beckon, or start a mission in the usual way?

I also hope it has plenty of content, weapon types, and G-Rank missions. If it's a cut back 3DS game with a hook and prettier graphics that's barely a sale to me. It must play better than 4G, X and XX haven't cut it for me. Make me proud Capcom :)

Finally returning to where it belongs. Those jagged edges in 3ds really sucked, glad will never see those on ps4.

It's good to finally have Monster Hunter back on proper home consoles. The 3ds was NOT doing the series justice.

@neurogia: I don't know why you think that, 4G is the best selling and highest rated game in the series. The game is a masterpiece. And it's on 3DS.

With that said, I have high hopes for this game.

finally! this series is back where it belongs -- on capable hardware powerful enough to do the series justice. no longer will it be held down by nintendo handhelds running ancient tech. it took capcom long enough but this is great news indeed!

@Xristophoros: Despite being "ancient tech" Monster Hunters most well received game ever is still 4G because it plays and handles very well. The game is a masterpiece, I hope this game focuses more on what that game did well instead of leaning on gimmicks from the X series.

I like the new look, and hope it's great on PS4 but I feel it might end up being watered down in the content manner and like X remove G-Rank missions which is the most fun part of MH games.

@RSM-HQ: in either case, this is a stepping stone that was a long time coming for the series to mature -- presentation wise. not sure how they will handle the mechanics... will they water it down in the hopes they can make the series a little bit more mainstream? i don't know... that said, it is good to see capcom reaching out to other platforms as well, rather than locking the series down as a handheld exclusive. i'm sure there will be spinoffs forthcoming on the switch which is all good as well.

@Xristophoros: Well the camouflage and grappling hook are new features. I like them and am very excited as well. Let's hope it's a great game regardless :)

@wexorian: true, I was disappointed too but I remembered the 3ds games always taking an extra 6 months to get released to the west. Doesn't really matter as long as switch gets a release I'll be cheering.

I still don't get why Monster Hunter is so popular. Like I tried it before? And I just didn't get what made it so special. But I'm glad fans of the games have another one to look forward to.

@Ovirew: it has a huge learning curve if you only gave it an hour or two it probably wouldn't appeal. I've sunk 300+ hours into the series from wii u to 3ds and there's still so much I haven't done or quite used properly.

@Ovirew: Because you actually have to be a good gamer to be good at it. You have to know the hunts and know what is coming or you will die and I mean die often.

@garysan: Well i'm an Xbox gamers and I liked the look of it so it's a day one purchase for me, keep the Japanese titles coming I say.

Maybe Capcom is making/woken up for is monumental screw up that was making Streetfighter 5 a console exclusive.

Finally a monster hunter where you don't have to fight with the N3DS' crappy analog nub (god help you if you play with an old 3DS) as well as the monster.

@catsimboy: To be honest, I never really had trouble playing on the old 3DS. I kind of feel like trying to use the analog nub might have been harder.

@Jaxith: Agreed, I played 4U on the New 3DS, but I broke it and had to go back to my og XL and found that it was much easier to play without the nub, and less painful.

Hell yes! It's about time it got another legitimate release on console (and now PC!) Been stuck on the craphelds for too long (and Nintendo fail consoles, I say this due to their online framework being utter shit)
