Most of those games will not run native 4K on xbox one X

Fallout 4 and For Honor run 1440p on PS4 pro and neither of those games match PC highest settings. How can xbox one X run it 4K when it is only 50% faster than PS4 pro at most?!

Rime runs 1080p

Many of the other game run checkborder 1800p (which worse native 1800p let alone 2160p)

Its 100 bucks more then the ps4 pro big disappointment! Its also the same price that the xbox one launched sad

@NFJSupreme: thats actually part of what they (Sony & MS) want... a surge in the sales of 4k tv, so that the NEXT GEN systems can be enjoyed in all there glory

So it's just an Xbox one pro.....I feel Microsoft just responded to PS4 pro and that's it. Everything else will remain the same.

Shall wait till next year and see what developers do with the extra horsepower.

Somewhat feel Sony still lacking, let's just hope developers don't wait too long to make the most of the updated hardware.

@agravier: Seriously. Nobody cares. Exclusives are what drives interest in a specific console. The third party titles come after a decision on which console to buy has been made. The XBox lost this race a long time ago and exclusives are the only thing that will save them.

If someone wants the best of the best, they'll spend more money and get a PC. If they want exclusive experiences, convenience or affordability, they'll get a PS4.

Where does the XBox fit in that equation?

It doesn't.

Avatar image for wryguy
WryGuy

@wryguy: As for 4K content. If you're a casual purveyor streaming will do just fine since the majority of 4K content is only available through streaming services in the first place. So again, the PS4 Pro works fine as an entry level model for someone with a smaller 4K TV and a soundbar.

If you're serious about investing in 4K content, that means you're getting a 65 Inch 4K Television (the ideal starting size for 4K movies,) an AV Receiver, surround sound speakers and a universal remote.

If you've already gone that far, you're not going to impressed by saving an insignificant amount of money on a sub-par 4K Blu Ray Player. You'll get a dedicated unit set to a TV input that doesn't have game mode enabled.

Once again, the PS4 works fine as the entry level unit and the XBox does not fulfill the needs of a more serious investor into 4K.

@wryguy: not true. the start of this gen and what gave sony the big lead was purely power.

Avatar image for wryguy
WryGuy

@sodapoppimpski: Not really. The two base consoles are roughly equivalent in power. The XBox has a stronger CPU and the PS4 has a stronger GPU. The differences are there but they're not gigantic.

If it feels like the PS4 is significantly more powerful it's the result of good first party developers pushing the system.

The PS4 won for a variety of reasons, which includes exclusives, pricing, and bad PR on Microsoft's end such as requiring the Kinect and projecting every game would have DRM.

Avatar image for trolleyproblem
TrolleyProblem

@wryguy: Sorry, what exclusives did sony win with back in 2014?

MS lost due to bad PR. nothing else.

Pricing was fine, it included Kinect, which is a fine piece of tech. However, as majority of gamers like to nickle and dime every thing, it was a huge drawback for them to be pushed into buying this kinect with xbox, and therefore incurring additional costs.

Avatar image for wryguy
WryGuy

@trolleyproblem: I don't think you can call it nickel and diming when it was something basically nobody wanted. Fine piece of tech or not, there weren't that many games made for it and it had already soured with the public on the 360 years prior. It was a lost cause.

As for exclusives, even games like Drive Club, Infamous: Second Son and semi-exclusives like The Last of Us were a step above what Microsoft was offering. Neither console was particularly impressive compared to earlier ones, but either way PS4 walked away the winner and exclusives played a part up to and including the genuine heavy hitters like Uncharted 4.

I don't even like Uncharted, or most Sony developed games for that matter, but I still know it moved units.

Avatar image for sodapoppimpski
SodApOpPIMPski

@wryguy: I know the difference between the two is minor, I own both, but Sony pushed the 1080p hard when they realized they had the advantage and that is what help it sell, that and the $100 difference.

Avatar image for wryguy
WryGuy

@sodapoppimpski: I honestly don't think the average person can really tell the difference between 960p and 1080p, but that might have helped. I think the pricing and exclusives were a much bigger deal.

I also own both and my XBox One is just a lump sitting on my shelf. I bought it for Forza 6. I expected more interesting exclusives to come later. Didn't get them, so the XBox just sits there. Sometimes I turn it on to play an old 360 game, but I seriously spend more time on my Sega Genesis than I do on my XBox one.

Not even joking. Thunder Force III and Sonic 3 & Knuckles get more love than my XBox One does.

Games like The Witcher 3, Skyrim, and FF15 will feel like brand new games with these upgrades and will be worth playing again just for that. I'm personally getting one for Red Dead Redemption 2 and State of Decay 2.

Avatar image for speed45823

Now that the One X is out, it'll officially the most powerful console ever built surpassing PS4 Pro in terms of raw power. So from here on out, all third party games will look and run better on Scorpio next to PC without having to blow 1000 to 2000 dollars on a beefy gaming PC. Congrats on Microsoft for this great achievement. And yes this compliment is coming from a PC user who owns a GTX 1070.

Avatar image for khanwashere
KhanWasHere

@speed45823: Hold on there... There are SO many variables in how the games graphics are configured. Running full ultra 4K settings with two GPU's on PC yields completely different result that running single GPU medium or high settings which will be closer to XoX performance. Pop in and draw distance will be the most distracting as it created an jarring effect on screen at anytime. Sure XoX will look amazing but I think everyone needs to reel in the reality of what PC graphics and console graphics actually are when looking at $500 gear vs $1500 gear. Full screen anti aliasing will always be that one shortcoming that devs sacrifice to get everything running properly and that one feature alone could make or break PC gamer adoption if gaming on proper 4K HDR displays.

Sure I would prefer to game on a nice quiet console and have full ultra 4K graphics. I have water cooling and tons of fans trying to keep my PC cool and it's loud, especially when I overclock. To push ALL the pixels, not just the one optimized for the Scorpio processor but all the ones in the PC game requires massive amounts of cooling. Even the liquid cooling chamber in the XoX box isn't enough to allow for all that. Compromises are being made and we won't know to what extent until Digital Foundry dives in and evaluates it all.

@khanwashere: Well, think of it like this. IF MS has not been able to achieve it with X, how much fun would it be to pick on them after their consoles start crashing like crazy?

But if MS did reach it then...

Avatar image for speed45823
speed45823

@khanwashere: TBH, this whole 4K push is gimmicky to me. I'd rather they focus on 1080p / 60 and spend the rest of the console's resources on better visual fidelity. Even on PC 4K is not mainstream, let alone on consoles. These console manufacturers needs to get their priorities straight. Also, if they're gonna go all out and makes games for these "Next Gen" consoles only (PS4 Pro and One X) cause as is, the OG PS4 / Xbone will be holding back Pro / One X in terms of what the devs can develop since they will have to make games for both OG consoles which are significantly weaker as well as the newer ones.

I think the devs will do it soon since OG consoles have already reached their limits hence these new console cycles. Also Microsoft did mention that the devs can use the power of One X however they like so let's see how all this plays out. I really loved the look of Anthem. That's some serious next level graphical fidelity AND it was running on One X. So things are looking good for that console.

1/3 more power than ps4 pro for 100 more than ps4 pro was when it launched with 399 price tag, 100 more sounds fair to me for 1/3 more power now that's a fair deal. Happy E3 lads, spread your ''has no games'' comments below.

P.S I like Sony too just hate the fan base I hope Sony E3 goes well hype for god of war 2 and last of us 2 crazy ain't it someone can like not 1 but 2 consoles boy I know that's kinda crazy but trust me it's far better

Avatar image for deactivated-5a1cc7fd1fbbd

@ebgenetics: 6/4 = 1,5 = 50% more power and not even talking about how DX12 APIs are integrated into its silicon making it super efficient.

9 gigs of ram > 5 BTW having less than 8 gigs of ram in a gaming PC is considered insanity.

You're welcome.

Avatar image for darkelf83

@netiger: Actually 6/4.2 = 1.42 = 2/5 more. You sir are welcome. Oh and straight from Xbox.com "With 40% more power than any other console" The Pro also has 5.5 GB for games. If your gonna try to fact check someone at least get yours right.

Also ram in a console is less needed then a gaming PC. A PC uses the ram for so many more things and varies greatly based on how the user uses their PC. More is of course better, but if 5 was so bad why did both MS and Sony both start that way?

Avatar image for NFJSupreme
NFJSupreme

@darkelf83: for higher resolution (4k) the more RAM the better. That's why the X will have a lot more native 4k games than the pro

5 GB ENOUGH FOR GAMES you made my day sir thanks for the laugh!

@playstationzone: Thanks for comment mr pony hope your reply replenishes your empty life. PS4 lives off crap Japanese and indie games and now ms does it you don't count them as exclusives ha (hypocrite). PS your name is about as sad as your posts GJ also like I told your sad friend believe it or not Xbox helps Sony be better so hating it is actually making Sony worse too, congrats on killing the brick you love so much. @ninja2481: lol. I like how you cleared "having pc" part out :P

Avatar image for ishsgames

@ninja2481: I like the direction Microsoft is taking console hardware. Games, although we may have to wait for patches months after launch for the X; will really close the gap between a high spec PC and X. More importantly, this ridiculous disparity in graphics brought up from the OG ps4/x1 will fade away with time because the pro and especially the X are both capable machines with far more headroom. This will also ease development for the many Triple A devs who can't squeeze their games into the X1/Ps4.

I can also imagine exclusives will release on the X later on. As this current generation rotates (ps5 MAY be announced next year) out, i think we will most likely see next gen titles launch on the X. That is just how capable the X is.

And for you PC Otaku's: the X's GPU is somewhere around a 480 and Fury. That is super impressive considering its $500 and 8 GB 480 released Q3 2016 for $230 and X is FASTER. Also we still don't know exactly what cores X is running. If its the same NCUs as Vega then i would be absolutely blown away, but i doubt that! Just compare that to the x1. A barely 7700 equivalent which was like a $80ish GPU.......
