Now Playing: Destiny 2 Darkest Hour Story Trailer - E3 2017

That dates that Destiny 2's beta will run have been confirmed. Publisher Activision announced on its blog that preorder customers will be able to play the beta on PlayStation 4 starting July 18, and on Xbox One beginning July 19. The beta opens for all players on July 21. The company also stated that a PC beta is planned for late August, with more details coming "soon."

The Destiny 2 news kept coming today: the game's console release date has been moved forward, now launching on September 6, while the PC version will launch on October 24.

You can read a lot more about Destiny 2 from its official reveal, including about how it's adding the ability for solo players to find groups to play Raids with. At its E3 2017 press conference, Sony also showed a cinematic trailer that suggested a strong story focus for the game.

Why don't they just go back to calling them demos? That's basically all they are. They must be ecstatic that they have once again found a way to make you pay for something that used to be free.

@heretrix: Public betas give fans a chance to find bugs that the developer's testers did not see or find. A demo is a demonstration of a product already out. You are also not purchasing a demo but you are pre-purchasing the game. But hey, good try at being salty. Didn't know you can get mad over nothing.

@maccattack13: Hey, it's all good keep paying for the privilege of being a freaking tester. If they were really serious about testing then the "Beta" would be a longer than a week. OR there would be more than one. Keep on being a sucker tho. They just want preorder money because people like you are so eager to give it to them. If I were them I'd take advantage of that too. I'm not mad about it I just don't like the BS. Call it what it is, paid access to a demo.

And yes I am aware that the open beta is free and I'm not specifically talking about Destiny.

Even with the most powerful console ever made and then the eventual release of XoX in November, neither will get 60fps. If you want frames you want a PC, period.

@khanwashere: Unfortunately, all my Destiny buddies are on the Xbox.

Avatar image for khanwashere

@Mogan: That's my issue as well, expect they're on PS4. I will get the PC version for the campaign. Not sure I'll invest the time in Strikes or End Game this time. I'm no stranger to buying the same game on multiple platforms for different purposes but with Destiny the stats don't stay with you so that will be out of the question.

@khanwashere: Have they said whether or not your characters and gear are bound to one system?

There is ZERO incentive to get this game on Xbox One X.

@push88: Graphics, I guess. But yeah, I'm pretty disappointed it's not 60 fps on "the most powerful console ever built."

@Mogan: Blame Sony for that, FPS parity clause for Destiny.

@dreadborne: Is that a true thing?

@xboxonex: You have NO IDEA what you're talking about. That much is clear. If you think you're gonna get 4K 60fps on most games, you are out of your mind. The only game at 60fps was a racing game. You will not see a game like Anthem running at 4K 60fps on Xbox One X. Lol

@push88:
Shadow of War was said to be 4k/60, and you can bet future Gears and Halo titles will be too - they might even release a patch for current releases.

Something to note is that whether or not a game runs at 4k/60, is largely dependent on the developer. MS did not set a mandate that forces devs to make their games 4k, so even if the console was powerful enough to run a game at 4k/60, that doesn't necessarily mean the dev will (in the words of Capt. Picard) "make it so."

Bungie have basically told me to keep my money, as a PC player there is no way I am going to pay the same price as a PS4 player to receive a clearly inferior product. In most games the platform exclusive content is either delayed by 30 days or limited to a bonus or skin. Destiny 1 had the PS4 keep exclusivity over the content for a year and it includes full on parts of the game like PVP maps and full PVE strikes. I see Destiny 2 is littered with the same problem, and i'll keep my cash thanks.

@Nerpraptor: I'm just going to get it on my PS4 this time I think !

Any other ways to get into the beta besides preordering?

Will the Amazon preordering work?

Avatar image for spartanx169x

@Ripper_TV: The beta is only closed for the first few days. Since the beta starts on a Tuesday, it will only be closed until that Friday. Then it will be fully open no matter if its PS4 or XB1.

Also said open beta on July 21 - 23, but it's not mentioned here for some reason

Blatant "pay us to test". At least game companies used to try and pretend they had a moral compass.

@sellingthings: yeah, EA didn't try to hide it. They proudly sold the same sports games to people each year for decades with barely more than a different title & cover athlete. but, they were like the group of crackheads that used to try & wash your Windows in the 90's, then demand tips... you knew to steer clear of them.

Avatar image for MondasM

@twztid13: actually what ea did in the nineties was brilliant, they paid a lot of money to various franchises and hold the digital rights, then they used that license each year with various tweaks to the game... ea paid a hefty sum to fifa, nfl, nhl to obtain their rights, and saw the return of their investment... they are still operating with the same agenda... i do not think that they are evil, they are just catering to the needs of the consumers...

Avatar image for MondasM
MondasM

@sellingthings: sorry for the late reply but someone has or had to do it, and ea was the first to pay up, if no one did we'd all get pes where one cannot use the names of the teams and players, however during early to late 00's i had abandoned fifa and played pes (or we11) exclusively, no matter the license, if a game is good, you'll play it, i have switched back to fifa since 2008... :)

Won't touch this game with a 10 ft. pole without an open beta. Even if it is fun, their pricing practices and rotten attitude is still a major turn-off and it's not like Borderlands has gotten any less fun these last few years.

@darthrevenx: Their previous Beta was 1/3 of the final game.

Avatar image for darthrevenx

@Ripper_TV: technically it was 1/4 of the final game......4 planets, could only complete one planet......also capped and locked at level 10 when you reach it but could earn all perks.....weird setup......

Anthem can you hear the anthem. It's destiny if you cannot.

Avatar image for Mogan

@lorddaggeroff: BioWare has never gotten third person shooting down well enough to make me think Anthem will be a real competitor in the co-op loot shooter genre. Destiny's combat mechanics are pretty much the best there are right now, and while I hope Anthem is good, I'm not expecting an RPG studio to out shooter Bungie.

Avatar image for heretrix
heretrix

@Mogan: EXACTLY. As much as I was impressed with Anthem, I would be surprised if they can pull off the shooting mechanics as well as Destiny has. Say what you want about Destiny, it has some of the tightest shooting out there outside of Doom and Wolfenstein.

@heretrix: And CoD, Battlefield, Rainbow 6, OverWatch, Titanfall, Borderlands.

You are just kidding yourself here and likely caught up in the weekly grind that is Destiny. Pull away from it for a while and you'll likely see the wood for the trees again.

Although I've spent countless hours in the original I couldn't help but feel they ripped day one buyers off with holding back content and also Xbox gamers missed out on some content and are actually still waiting. If it turns out that it's 60FPS on X1X which is a big if even though the Xbox is perfectly capable then I'll bite the bullet and get it day one.🎮✌️

Avatar image for Ripper_TV

@gamerbum: There's a newspiece somewhere saying it's 30 on X1X.

Avatar image for ltjohnnyrico

@gamerbum: Don't think it'l be 60FPS on X1X .. They will probably have parity with PS4 and X1 and lock it to 30 ! Which will be a shame !!
